Quick question (as I don't have one)....can the existing iPhone be used as a Bluetooth modem with a MacBook using the data allocation from O2 Ireland?

    Hi.
It's definitely not possible to use the iPhone as a tethered modem. Or the next one for that matter.

Can't do it via bluetooth either, the bluetooth stack is very crippled. All it supports is mono headset, as far as I know.

its in their best interests, i think. its to prevent any file sharing via bluetooth. think about it, if apple makes a phone that can acess the itunes store to purchase music, do you think they'd let the phone share that music via bluetooth?

using a mobile device as a modem makes use of the Dial-Up-Networking bluetooth service / profile - not file transfer etc.

the music files are DRM protected - even if you could copy them, they wouldn't play on another iPhone/machine.

Only songs that are bought from the iTunes Store. Songs imported from other sources are not.
