Its a way of flipping a coin to determine placings without actually having to flip a coin. It determines the placings by luck according to the following :

    Best back 9 score wins,
If still ties, best last 6 wins,
If still ties, best last 3 wins,
If still ties, best last hole wins,
If still ties, best score on index 1 wins,
If still ties, best score on Idexes 1 to 3,
If still ties, best score on indexes 1 to 6,
If still ties, best score on indexes 1 to 9.
If still ties - then the coin just has to decide.

Its rare to see countbacks going beyond last three holes tho.

    Thanks Sandwich!

I assume it is your net score that is counted, allowing for whatever shots you received for each individual hole??

me and a mate had 46 points in a 15 hole winter fourball comp in the club. We were chuffed, I was -3 gross for 15 :) Anyway we thought we were a sure thing in the bar. Turns out two oul codgers had 46 pts as well. When they tried to do a count back, our score were identical all the way around!! there was no way of deciding so we both got 1st place :)
