Can anyone give me a bit of advice??

Recently finished up in my old job. Used to be paid by cheques but went to my bank today to discover that the cheque that from my old jobhad bounced. Now this is not the first time this has happened but as I was still working in the company it was always eventually paid.

Contacted the old boss and told him what had happened and all i got was "foreign cheque not cleared. Will text you when I sort it".... I dont have a bean to my name and now dont know what to do.

Contacted the Dept of Employement and they said that there is nothing immediate they could do.. It could take months for them to reclaim the money.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Would really appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance

    Eve

If a cheque from your employer bounces, it's generally a very bad thing.

I doubt the company has much money, so all you can do is give him time to sort it - only a couple of days, mind.

In the meantime, you'll need to sort out cash. What were you going to do for money?

Well am lucky that I have a generous brother who said he can help out!

Thing is that he has had 2 weeks to sort this out but still nothing. He issued me the cheque when I left in the middle of the month but I didnt lodge it until my "pay day" as did not want to blow it!!

    Hi Eve

Ring your employer and tell him that if you dont receive your money within a few days you will lodge a complaint with the rights commissioner under the non payment of wages act. I'm sure when you mention the rights commissioner he wil pay you. If not take him to the commission as you have done nothing wrong and he will be named and shamed in the local papers. pm me if you need anymore help.

If someone issues a cheque knowing that there are no funds in the bank to clear it, a criminal offence is committed.
    two things to be done
    1. Tell the guards and ask for an investigation.
    2. Hire a solicitor to sue on the cheque.
    3. Threaten to do either or both of the above before doing it.

    Hey

Have still heard nothing from him at all. Am giving him until the end of the week and if I have heard nothing by then will get back on to the Dept of Employment and get them to take it further.

Thanks for your advice especially the part about the cheque, that is something i did not know.

    Eve
