Fibre Arts Get Together - crochet, embroidery, knitting, tatting, etc

I'm a tatter, which I know is a rare thing in Ireland. I'm also trying to teach myself crochet. In my original home (Ireland is my home now) I used to go to craft get togethers on a fairly regular basis. They were a great way to meet like-minded people and share what you have.

I'm wondering if anyone else here would be interested in getting together for an afternoon of fibre-arts? I'm thinking a Sunday would be best and somewhere in central Dublin to make it as accessible as possible for people. (suggestions as to location welcome)

If you're interested please reply and let us know what crafts you do!

It is one of those things that most people don't know about until they see it, then you often here "my aunt/grandmother/friend" did that.

I do run an online group for tatters at http://etatters.ning.com

Still, nothing beats getting together in person.

Hi everyone, I too recently stumbled apon tatting and want to teach myself how to do it, but i can't find tatting needles :-( Anyone know where I can find these in Dublin? also the thread to use with it. :)

For tatting needles you can use doll needles. Rubanesque in powerscourt have them. If you ask for them at This is Knit in powerscourt it helps to build a case for them to start selling them too :)

If you want to use yarn to tat you'll need mattress needles - about a foot long and very sharp.

If you want to do needle tatting with crochet cotton (size 5 or finer) then you'll need tatting needles. Doll's needles are a good substitute.

If you want to do tatting with yarn (ie DK weight) you'll need mattress needles.
