Hi, yes another laser eye surgery question. I have read alot of the post/threads and am still none the wiseer. I am really thinking about laser treatment this year but want a reccommendation from someone. I will go anywhere in dublin. I daw an add on TV for Optical Express ( each eye €500) Wow! thats cheap but apparently tha tis for standard eye laser traetment which I believe is now out dated. Or is it? It was a competitor who is say it is outdated. Possibly as it is cheaper. Anyway I am now confussed. How do you know which treatment is most suitable and who to go to. Any experiences or advice please? Oh yeah, on the day of the consultation is it necessary to have someone drive you home or not?

    thanks

Can't really comment on the pricing other than that I doubt they'll recommend the €500 option. More than likely it will be Lasik/Lasek with Wavefront. You really won't be in any shape to drive after the first consultation. Pupils will be dilated for ages so any bit of sunshine at all will be pretty blinding. It was late the following afternoon before mine were back to normal.

I went for a consultation in Optical Express yesterday and I was told I couldn't drive afterwards so my sister took me but to be honest I felt like I could have driven. My eyes were very blurred for close ups but my longvision was fine.
I never got the option of going for the standard price, I got a quote for the dearest one (3,700) but to be honest I was happy enough as it all sounded very straightforward and less healing time with the one I chose. You also get a 15% reduction if you are with VHI. I was delighted. Got 555 off the price. I also told them of a mate who got her eyes done and got a further 50 reduction and my friend got 50 cheque!
I'm booked in for 28th July and I can't wait to be able to see again...You should give them a call to talk you through it. Plus it costs nothing to have a consultation.

joeyW, how did the surgery go? I have an appointment with optilase on sun.
How much did it cost you in the end? It just seems to me that there is a big difference in price between all these clinics.

It went brilliantly, I'd recommend it to anyone. It wasn't as bad as I thought but I did have a valium in me so that helped ;). The second it was done, I could see perfectly. My eyes were very runny and I found it hard to keep them open but they weren't at all sore. I went home, slept for three hours and when I woke up I was right as rain and have been ever since. It's been 2 weeks now and I've had no side effects whatsoever but I've been told it's because I opted for intralase which is the dearest procedure they have but I would definitly recommend it. I could have gone back to work the very next day but I had a week off so even better! It cost 3095 in the end. You should go for it, you won't know yourself afterwards. Best of luck.

    Hi
I had a consultation yesterday with optilase. Would not have been able to drive the light was blinding could not stop blinking also could not focus on anything close to me, was not even able to send text message so would not feel safe driving. I have another consultation next week with Optical express.

Would be inteested to hear from anyone who had a consultation with optilase in particular anyone with vivas. What did you think?

As nice as JoeyW's exp sounds, keep in mind that lots of things can, and do, go wrong, and pretty much all of them are irriversible
