I am stuck in DCU for the summer doing a News Design assignment which I failed in semester one. But to be honest I haven't got a clue what I am doing and if anything I have forgotten most of what I learned in semester one!

I was just wondering does anyone know any good websites where you can learn how to use News design properly and how to set up pages to make projects? I know how to lay out some of the pages but I dont know how to get all the different pages into a big project if you know what I mean. Do I set the document up to do all the pages at once or I do each individual page and save them all together at the end. I'm really sorry about all this but if anyone has any experience of using News Design I would be really grateful if they could get in touch, Thanks!!!!

You're talking about InDesign, aren't you? The best site I know of for learning it is Lynda.com. You select which version of InDesign you're using and it talks you through loads of basic tutorials on how to do things which gradually get more advanced. Think the first few are free but you might have to pay after that.

For your question about the document, it's best to just open up a new document and have whatever the number of pages necessary in that and then work on it in there, if you want to have it all as one big project.

And listen, don't panic. If you're doing a newspaper or magazine, start picking out pages from real publications that you really like and then you can try to emulate them. Once you remember the basics from InDesign then it's pretty straightforward.

Also it might be worth sending a mail to your lecturer to see if they have any tips for how to go about it, or seeing if anyone from your class is around to show you stuff. Good luck with it.
