volume on all EU players is capped at a certain level thanks to the french having a law against devices that can output a certain volume.

there's not much you can do about it as far as i know especially with the new generation ipod's.

tbh the volume is high enough on the new ipod's, i'd consider buy a proper set of headphones or IEM's (in-ear monitors) which are built with quality and block out surrounding noise completely and hence you don't need the volume so loud.

This will not remove the EU volume cap, as mentioned by Cremo

If you're going to tell people to search why not put your money where your mouth is and include searched examples, such as:

My bad, sorry. Did a little digging around and found a couple of methods of doing this on 5.5G iPods. You'll need a hex editor that can access the hardisk of the iPod directly. Anyway if you have Bootcamp running with XP then this method might work for you.

There are also links to a replacement firmware for EU iPods that overcomes the "problem". One such example is here.

6th Gen iPods still seem to be the Holy Grail for now though.

Edit: A quick question to those in the know. If someone was to download the American iPod updater would that restore the iPod to an American one hence doing away with the EU volume limit ?
