Hi, i am just looking for some advice regarding phone interviews. I have one in the next couple of days and i have got some basic pointers on what to read up one etc.. but i've never had one before. Basically i am just looking for some info from people who have done them before.

I was advised that the person i would be talking to will be from the HR department and they will be mainly talking about my C.V, work experience etc..

I am fairly comfortable with normal interviews but i am wondering if there is any pitfalls with the phone situation i should take care to be prepared for...any advice is welcome.

basically telephone interviews are used to assess how well you come accross over the phone, they will be looking for signs of how good your communication skills are and how confident you sound. my best advice to you would be to have your cv and some notes beside you with bullet points of your experience/qualifications to date as well as what qualities and skills you have, the reason i say this is because sometimes your mind can go blank and its re-assuring to have these pointers at hand.
    a few basics:
    1. Know the interviewers name and use it when speaking to them.
    2. dont interupt.
    3. speak clearly and stick to the point, speak with confidence.
    4. expand each answer a little ie dont just answer with a yes/no.
    5. have a few questions written down to ask at the end.
    6. at the end thank the interviewer for the call and that you look forward to speaking to them again.

search sites such as jobs.ie which have tips for frequently asked questions and maybe have a friend call you for a mock interview before you do the real thing.
    goodluck.
