Might be worth noting the FRC 50m Open is on the 10th and the Comber Open is on the 29th, from the NTSA website. Only really affects a few people, but I'm sure some of them would like to go, myself included, so my own vote is currently going for just about any of the other dates.

I'm up for trying any disciplines. To date, only really done inroductory type DTL and Sporting type layouts, "here's exactly how easy clay shooting isn't" type stuff, and I've done reasonably well in it, so would like something a tad more challenging, a proper layout, rather than the business lunch outing type stuff. I might also put in some 50m or 100yd shooting with the .22 if I bring it.

Either the 3rd or the 24th would be good for me. The 3rd is a bit better though.

There might be some members of this board who don't have Shotguns, who would like to go on this day out.

Is there club guns in Midlands that can be used?

I think someone said there were the last time, but I'm sure guys would let others have a bash with theirs in any case.

I could loan a gun or two if needs be, can't do the 10th or 31th though.

Last I checked, loaning firearms was against midlands' club rules...

Courtlough? We can make a day of it and use rifles, shotties and bows.

Would september not be a better idea ? I know it's duck season and all that but the event calender will be a lot less packed for a lot of people ?

August is a busy month for trap shooters with the DTL World Championships taking place from 17th to 23rd. There's only a few ABT shoots left for any potential team members and you have the Irish Open ABT, Home International Olympic Trap, Inter Provincial ABT.......the list goes on.

The ICPSA is running open days (or maybe just one day) in Spetember - 27th or 28th which is aimed at getting new people involved in the sport. The plan is to have different disciplines available with both sporting and trap coaches on hand to give free introductory lessons.

I won't vote for a particular date but I'll do my best to get to it if I can. Wouldn't mind having a crack at a rifle:)

You'd be welcome I'm sure. It's in Midlands, or such is the proposal. Cortlough is also an option, seemingly. Personally, I'm not fussy, either suits me.

North Wicklow, so yeah, that'd be about right. :p

Last time Midlands was decided because its central to people from most parts of the country, if everyone who is going is from the East cortlough or another eastern venue could be picked but a few from the west already intrested so Midlands for now. they also cater for full bore out to a range of 1200 yards.
All options open at this point so if you have any suggestions.. fire away

So far the 17th is winning and it dosnt clash with any of the other events mentioned above.

I could be wrong but I believe you can neither hire nor use someone elses shotgun in Midlands.

Hilltop is another option - dunno if it suits people where it is - probably in same boat as Courtlough on that score - but has Novice, DTL, ABT, Compact Sporting & Sporting layouts - using all the stands you could have 20 or more shoot at once if you wanted.

Then there's everything else you can do there as well, rifle, archery, quads.

I'm a coach and have full insurance to "coach" someone while they're using my gun. If I can make it to the venue, anyone without a gun is welcome to a bit of free "coaching" and can use my gun for the clays....provided the venue owners don't object:)

Thoroughly sound. That might hold some considerable sway.

If people weren't too hung up on a date in August, there are two days coming up in September - 27th and 28th.
The ICPSA is running two introduction/coaching days open to all.
The first is in the National Shooting Grounds in Ashbourne on Sat 27th and the second is in Ballinasloe Shooting grounds on Sunday 28th from 1pm to 4pm.
Anyone can turn up and you'll get a bit a few free shots plus a bit of coaching. It's aimed at complete beginners who want to have a go and more experienced shots who want to get a bit of free coaching.
Watch out for more details in the August Shooters Digest or the ICPSA website

Was thinking about this thread earlier. Was a date ever settled on?

I may not have a shotgun in time, purchase is proving slow, but I'd still be interested.
