    From BBC News
    Google must divulge YouTube log

Google must hand over the log holding details of every user who has watched any video on YouTube, a US court ruled.

The ruling comes as part of Google's legal battle with Viacom over allegations of copyright infringement.

Digital rights group the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) called the ruling a "set-back to privacy rights".

The log, which will be handed to Viacom, contains the log-in ID of users, the computer IP address (online identifier) and video file details.

So, because I like your television shows and films, and enjoy watching clips online and discussing them with friends -- thus increasing your worldwide audience and introducing more and more people to those same shows... you've decided to hand my personally identifying information off to your crack team of law-bots.

Well, **** you too Viacom! That's the last time I part with my cash to purchase your products.

    Wow, thats pretty unreal.

What google should do is PRINT the log files and leave them outside Viacom's HQ in the middle of the night. :)

Maybe Google should wholeheartedly agree to hand over the information, but then, quite accidentaly, have a server crash which destroys all the information.

Did we agree as users that our information could be passed to a 3rd party?

This is pretty crap news, soon music Companies will be on board and all we'll be left with crappy silent home movies.

It has already begun. I had my whole account deleted(without warning or explanation, I might add) because the music I used in one of my videos didn't belong to me. I had to email them afterwards to find out why it was deleted.

Absolute twaddle. The google takeover will be the deathknell of youtube. The amount of stuff that isn't allowed these days is ridiculous.

Sooner or later movie and music companies are going to realise that all this effort to close down websites and companies that allow us normal Joe Soaps to see and hear their material, has backfired somewhat.

I guess it'll be when its gotten to the stage that people are illegally reading books online instead and still dont go to cinemas as much as we used to...
