    Any opinions yet?

FIFA is sorta starting to tempt me back....
pro evo is annoying me with its lack of licenses..

Why the hell cant they just be given them??

Should the EU not step in or something about the lack of competition in the market as they have done with Microsoft and such??

Or has this been raised before??

erm i won't pick one until i play one.

seriously couldn't care less about licenses tbh, i fear with all this lark of trophies and non realistic gameplay that people are forgetting the main reason we play games.

Been a fan of PRO EVO for the last while - since 1 on PS2.

Ok Pro Evo has had the better gameplay, that is wats tearing me between the two.

Perhaps ill rent before i buy..
FIFA are attempting to improve their gameplay I'm just wondering if PRO EVO can pull anything out of the bag to remain competitive...

    yup.

might as well throw fuel on to the fire ISS > PROEVO > FIFA :p

unless we're talking about fifa96 <- last great fifa game.

If Konami fix the online functionality and vastly improve the editing options, as well as sort out the piss-poor graphics and framerate of PES2008, then I will go for PES2009.

May I add to that Otacon, please no more horrible cheesy menu music.

    From pesfan.com

With Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 officially announced last week, online retailers are now taking pre-orders for the game, and as you can see they all have their own opinions on when the game will go on sale

    ShopTo - 19th Sep
    Game - 1st Oct
    HMV - 3rd October
    Play.com - 31st Oct
    Gameplay - 14th Nov

With all stores apart from ShopTo, who have the game a couple of pound cheaper, listing the game at £39.99 you may have the wait a little longer for any deals to appear.

Will any of you be pre-ordering the game soon? Or will you take your chance on picking it up early from the high street around the release day?

Will definatly be getting Pro Evo. however bad it's reputed to be, it'll undoubtadly be better than FIFA.

Konami just KNOW how to make games. Couldnt care less about liscences tbh, you can download option files that make it just as good anyway.

    I could never understand this....

why does it have to be one or the other?, it was always just PES up until this year because FIFA got pure ****e after 2002, if both are good i'll be getting them, not as if your only allowed play one, besides there's a month between them with FIFA out first, and if it's good i won't trade it in.

I have FIFA now, just got it two weeks ago, got fed up after 7/8 mths of PES.
This years FIFA is an improvement but as flawed as PES is.
I'd still give it to PES, FIFA has too many annoying flaws too, the main been cursor change, i taught this was bad in PES 08 but it really takes the biscuit in FIFA, it rarely changes to the ''Closest man to the ball'' and sometimes switches to center players(midfield-defense) when your chasing someone down the wing(and want a winger player who would be closer to the ball), also from crosses and corners the cursor always gets stuck on the player you controlled in the box while players standing outside the box coming goalbound 5 yards away frm the ball can'y be swithces too(if they could you could pick up the clearing ball and start attacking again but ur left running the whole way out with the same man unable to switch on make them go for the ball.

Having said all that FIFA has supposedly fixed 250 problems fans pointed out, the main one been ''Speed'' thank ****, i was just saying this to someone last week ''if they only speeded it up it would be 10times better'' they slowed it down after 2002 and introduced all this ''Right Analog'' skills crap. I'd have loved to have seen the preview of it better, was very bad quality but it looked pretty good and fast from what could be seen!!

no wonder they were sellin so cheap 45 yo yos for a big title said it all really, so i went with fifa , been a fan since sega days bloody years im playing and ive never been so dissapointed.

Will decided which one afte the reviews.
Was leaning towards PES last year but Fifa 08 was better than it..even the PES diehards switched over..
Konami would want to make a big improvement on last years attempt to gain the high ground again.

Wow, i actually choked on fanboy smoke there.

Disgusting, when was the last time you gave FIFA a chance? Oh and you cant get option files for 360/PS3.

Will i buy PES or FIFA?

    Both.

having experienced the travesty that was PES in the last year or two, this year i made the jump back into FIFA and loved it. it has a lot of rough edges, but a lot of that stuff was fixed in euro2008... so i'm genuinely excited by what fifa09 can offer.

i'm a lot less enthusiastic about pes this year, but i'll still be sure to check it out

We are the worst country for Fifa fanboys. PES6 was brilliant, just like all the other previous PES', Ill give you that pes2008 was a side-step/step-back but it was still better than fifa, all fifa 08 did was close the gap.

I hate the way Pes has one installment that was less progressive as usual and all the fifa fanboys are out in force

Less progressive? It was pure and utter rubbish, and Konami should have given people their money back. Couldn't play online at all, had to drop the resolution on the TV so it wouldn't be jerky in offline mode, whereas FIFA (First time I bought it) plays brilliantly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,726 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Mine definitely didn't jerk. I just think its too goal filled, previous Pro Evo's make scoring a goal an actual ahcievement (anothe Fifa criticism I ahve had over the years). I have to be honest, I am talking about the ps2 version here, so if you are talking about ps3, well thas a shame but you should have gotten the ps2 one.

Therefore I don't play online (I don't think ps2 can do online well at all) so it was only gameplay that was a consideration for me. Fifa 08 felt more pro evolutionised than usual but still 'robotic' enough to know you are playing a fifa.

Having splashed out on a PS3, I expected it to work online and offline on a PS3. It just didn't, and Konami should be ashamed of themselves.

WhiteRebel is correct, Konami need to get with the times and start making a proper 7th gen version of PES. Sort the online options out and get rid of that ****e background music and out of date master league.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,726 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Fair enough. But me still with my ps2, have found pes 2008 to still kick ps2 fifa 08's ass.

Im not talking about bells and whistles. Only gameplay.

Master League is becoming ridiculously Stone Age really and I could make better presentation and menus then the current versions.

I believe Konami should be allowed to use all licenses along with EA though, its unfair that EA are allowed to do this, not only in football games. The fiercer competition would lear to better games - maybe the EU should step in seeing they are a fan of Fair Competition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,726 ✭✭✭✭noodler

It doesn't work like that. They are not breaking any law.

If they sell the rights to both parties then the price will crash. EA pay a bomb for the exclusivity rights.

This year was set to have most of the English teams included, can't remember which ones but there was only one of the top teams missing and it was'nt Man Utd. couple with that with the rights to Spain/Italy and you have 99% of the teams that are picked!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,726 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Heard it before! Missing the entire Bundesliga last time.

Is there nothing you can do on ps3 to sort kits bar manual edit?

Never said they were breaking the Law. Just think it leads to an unfair advantage and f*cks over the consumer.

i think a reason pes 08 suffered slightly was because they put aLOT off effort into pes08 for the wii-made that an amazing game, and therefor the other console versions suffered, they evern delayed the resease of the wii version to make sure it was perfect!

Unfair? Well if you want the right kits etc buy fifa.

No one forces you to go Pro evo. Like telling Sony MGS4 shouldn't be a ps3 exclusive.

Unfair may have been the wrong word.

No nobody does but I see it as EA's attempt to monopolise the market similar to what Microsoft did with their OS in the nineties. It might be good for business but it certainly ain't good for the consumer.

I can see where your coming from but you say the price would plummet? Why couldn't they both pay half? Same price for whoever supplies the license. Nobody is a loser but EA really.

I think EA are desperate to become the sole Game Developer / producer in the world so they can just churn incremental games year after year leading to no more then mediocrity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,726 ✭✭✭✭noodler

If both had the licence then Fifa, IMO, would lose alot of their fanbase. They know this, so are prepared to pay more than Konami would. Should every NBA game have the official teams etc?

Should that cack gaelic games ps2 game have been given the real rights etc?

I don't think it is anyone's fault but Konami's for not going for it with more gusto.

Myself and my mates still have the best craic ever playing ProEvo2008 on the PS2... fifa has never come anywhere near pro evo for gameplay.

As far as licencing goes myself and the lads make teams more realistic... takes a lil bit of time but its the small touches that really make you appreciate it.

Classic teams like Barca/United/Pool with their old logos on their chest, Sharp, candy etc.

****e music in Pro Evo, but who buys a game for music?

    Gameplay,Gameplay,Gameplay.

It's very easy to get all the kits and names for PES on the ps3 thanks to the usb ports

Damn right man if your playing with mates the gameplay is a lot more fun with Pro Evo.

But the single player element I'm afraid is a bit lacking in recent years.

i really dont like all this slaggin off that goes on regarding fifa or pes or 360 or ps3 for that matter, it all about personal choice at the end of the day , ive always been a fifa head but i would jump ship in a heart beat if a better title came out and so would most of us so lay off the stick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,329 ✭✭✭wcarey1975

Used to be a PES head until I got the PS3 but always had FIFA aswell. PES was definately a better game earlier on but either through a lack of care PES either got worse/stayed the same over the last couple of years or FIFA just improved so much that it has no IMO overtaken it slightly.

There are still something that make you want to throw away the or hit the TV but overall it has the ability to call you back for just one more game time and again.. Hope FIFA 09 improves again and removes the bugs...

One thing that annoys me, and I hope that I'm not the only one, is the replays why cant they just include the option to turn them off. I'm not interested in seeing one of my really bad shots that curves away to almost hit the corner flag (ala Geoff Thomas for England in the Graham Taylor era). Anyway sorry for going on....

when are these actually coming out i havn't bought a footie game in about two years because of all the stick they both have been getting (justified by the way they were not great at all) i played the last fifa and pro evo games and i wanted neither after playing them. but still when they do come out i think it will be pro evo for me. or i might just get both and keep my a** firmly on the fence.

Pro evo all the way...who gives a crap about licenses when gameplay is terrbile on fifa...Gameplay is priority here and pro evo totally out plays fifa any day of the week.
