BGRH mods can throw it over to us if they want. :)

OP, If you're in Dublin give the Grafton Barbers a ring.

Brillant hot towel shave and head and neck massage all for cheap price along the quays, not far from 4 courts but up towards O'connell bridge a bit same side as 4 courts.

Cant recommend it highly enough and very cheap too think its €15 and lasts well over half hour to 1 hour. You come out feeling totally refreshed and destressed.

I had one done on Saturday in Arnotts.

Pretty neat alright... but 25 euro was a bit steep.

I let people touch my face Saturday night at the boards beers and they were all impressed with how smooth it was.

Grafton Barbers have locations open to 7.30 and 8pm around Dublin city center. I think most city center barbers are open late this evening.

Saw someone getting it done in Grafton Barbers last week, looked good.

Think I'll get one myself at some stage.

Saw it being done in Ballinasloe, Galway.

Poor girl was hardly able to hold the towel it was so hot, hate to think how the guy felt :D

OH GOD NO! I wouldn't wish that on anyone!

Why are we talking about shaving on the FACIAL HAIR and hats forum... Razors are the enemy people!! :p

Mach 3, if there was ever an invention aimed purely to suck money from gullible peoples pockets that is it. I've fought a good fight against any of these Super Mach Turbo injected razors well and I went and bought myself a double sided safety razor the other week, a razor that I first learned to shave with by sneakily borrowing my dads to get rid of my first bum fluff almost 20 years ago now.
And the irony is that I didn't actually cut my face with the first shave after all these years, but almost sliced the top of my finger off when adjusting the thing with wet oiled up fingers, not a good idea.

I'll stick to my Mach 3 in that case Jip. No put putting myself in danger for a quick shave. Had the towel shave before though and it is the business. Must get one again soon.

I still use my 2 bladed Wilkinson Sword for quick shaves or when in a hurry. I use the other for when I have a bit of time like on a weekend or the evenings after a run and nice long shower.

way to stick it to the machine jip!seriously though been thinking of getting a razor like that but not sure i can justify the initial cost since i don't shave that often.however maybe i would if i had a better razor??are they hard to get used to?

They're a bit exepnsive but look at it as a treat for yourself. Plus they pay for themselves after you pay for a couple of replacement baldes for the multi headed razors, how much is a pack of Mach 3 blades these days ?
It takes a bit to get used to alright, mainly because you use a different technique, you don't push against your face like you can with the new types or you'll come away fairly bloody, you let the weight of the razor and the blade itself do all the work. It's a bit tricky getting the niggly bits like under your jaw if the hair grows left to right one side and the opposite on the other like me but again practice makes perfect.

I do however find that one sweep with the grain on my face gives a close a cut as when I have to do one with the grain and another against with the Wilkinson Sword. I'm still getting one or two little knicks but that's only when I try to get too close too soon along my jaw line.

Recipe for one hot towel shave administered at home by oneself.

    Ingredients
    1 Facecloth
    1 Kettle of boiling water
1 Moisturising balm (not an aftershave balm).I use King of shaves with tea tree.
1 new multiblade razor (e.g. Mach 3, Wilkinsword etc)
1 new plastic razor (e.g. Gillette Blue 2 or the like)
    Shaving foam

    Steps
1.Add boiling water to sink - add cold until water is just hotter than you can bear.
2.Add facecloth and place on face 4 or 5 times laeving for 20-30 seconds each time. Finish by using cloth to brush hair in opposite direction to growth.
3.Add some balm to your now red hot face.
4.Apply shaving foam and shave normally with your Mach 3 or whatever
    5. release water from sink and and repeate steps 1-3
    6. Shave again with plastic disposable razor. - These tend to be sharper and give a closer shave once the main body of hair is removed by the first razor. Use you fingers to stretch skin and remove hard to reach places like below nose, close to ear etc.
    7. Release water and fill sink again. Use the facecloth to remove any dead skin from your face in general. Also this can be done by a scrub.
    8. Dry face and apply one to two coats of a non-perfumed, non-coloured after shave balm like clinque M lotion.

It takes about 30 minutes but this will give you the same effect as going to the barber.

+1 on the safety razor. I'm using one the last few months. The blades are damn cheap also.

What type of DE razor are you using?

I use a merkur slant bar and a progress with feather blades on both (tough facial hair). I mainly use the slant bar though.

Cheers for the info. I've heard people mention practising on a balloon. And regards Mach 3 blades, you are right, they are nearly twenty for a pack of a eight I think. Have to say that getting a shaving brush and soap has made a big big difference for me, makes the whole experience a lot more enjoyable, and gets my bristles and skin ready for the shave. I know some people like shaving oil but I couldn't use that now, I don't think it does anything for you. Do you get razor burn with this razor?

It costs me about 36c per double edged blade vs the €2.50 for a mach3 - thats 85% cheaper!

with a DE razor its all about using the right blade and the right technique. When I started using a DE razor I bought a crappy wilkinson's sword DE razor and was using merkur blades. I had razor burn and cuts all over.
Then I got a merkur progress (adjustable) and a merkur slant bar (agressive) with ninja sharp feather blades. Works a charm now.
It did take a few months for me to be comfortable shaving. Now I can shave in less than 15 minutes comfortably with out any nicks, cuts or razor burn.
If you want to then get a razor here:
    http://connaughtshaving.com/merkur.html
and then get a sampler pack of blades from here:
    http://connaughtshaving.com/samplepack.html
maybe get some decent cream or soap aswell:
    http://connaughtshaving.com/shavingcream.html
    http://connaughtshaving.com/shavingsoap.html
I use a shaving cream. Ive use proraso, taylor and trumper. I prefer trumper the most but the rest are pretty good.

Cheers for the info. I'd love to be able to use a cut throat, they are so cool. Have a look at this

I haven't got any razor burn from it myself but I never really suffered from it anyway unless I was using a fairly dull blade and pressed too hard to compensate. I'm using a Merkur Futur with the blades that came with it and it's fine, haven't experimented with any others yet.

Just an old razor I found. Think it would have been a gran uncles or something. Stnadard blades, whatever I find in the shop. I'm lucky as my hair is quite light though.
