    Hi folks,

am upgrading my P4 pc to a quadcore media/gaming pc.

I need to be able to record digital free-to-air tv onto my hd and then stream it to my living room. I have basic ntl cable to the pc - based in Co.Meath.

What tuner/capture cards are ye using that will fit the bill.
I have used the Hauppauge PVR already but thats only analogue.

    Any recommendations ??

    Thx

    K

If you want to record NTL Digital TV, then you can use the Hauppage PVR, basically you take S-Video out from the NTL Digital box into the Hauppage S-Video input.

In order to change the channels on the NTL box from the PC (Media Center?) you use a IR blaster.

Unfortunately there is no way to natively record the NTL Digital signal directly.

    thx BK,

I use sky for my living room tv which is separate. But have un-subscribed NTL cable (ie no box at all-just analogue cable) into the room with the pc. Do I need to have an NTL box to get the free-to-air channels also. or can some of the Hauppauge cards get the free-to-air channels from this signal.

    thx

I'm a little confused on what your asking.

You can record the NTL standard 17 analogue channels straight using the Hauppage PVR by just plugging it straight into the aerial port on the Hauppauge card, you don't need the NTL digital box.

However note, this isn't free to air, NTL do not offer any free channels, you are supposed to be paying €23 for this service.

    Hope that helps.

    OK,

so If I subscibe and get an NTL digital service thru cable, they will supply one of there set-top-boxes.
Which capture card is then needed (plus an IR blaster) to record this digital signal.

    One of these possibly ?
They all mention free-to-air but it will now be from a paid service.

    Thx

you can buy a card called a technorend C-1501. it will allow you to watch digital FTA channels on NTL. NTL don't have that many. channel 6, RTE1 and 2 etc. no BBC

It might breach NTL T&C's though as they by passes the STB.

PVR 150 is everyones fav. the problem with the setup is that even though you have digital you can only record in analog. there is nothing you can do about that as the STB won't out put a digital signal.

ok, I have a PVR150 in my media pc (thats being replaced) at the moment -will use that.
Hopefully the quality is better than the analogue cable signal I am recording now -unwatchable.

    thx a mil folks,
