does it say what type of hard drive is in it ?

might be better off getting a unit w/o a hd and put a good samsung into it yourself. a unit that takes sata hd's also.

you might be buying a supoer cheap hd with that one.

I know maplin do media enclosures cheap - might be worth a ring.

    Thanks for the reply karltimber.

Yeah, I found the exact same enclosure on Maplin, but couldnt find a comparable hard drive. I think the cheapest I could find was a 500GB for around £130.

if you would settle for 500gb, id recommend getting a secondhand xbox and 500gb ide drive and then modding the xbox and install xbox media center. A lot of these no name media players have slow buggy interfaces and some of them cause the harddrives to die becuase they dont control the fans properly.

xbox media center skin forum for screenshots of different skins:

    Hi.
No doubt XBMC is pretty good.
I soft -modded by xbox myself using instructions i found on boards.ie somewhere - very easy (hot swap hard disk).

    However, the xbox horrendously noisy.
I just couldn't put up with it I can hear it even if it's on in the next room !

I wanted to use it in the kids playroom but the interface is just not friendly enought (i could probably work on that) for the kids age 3 and 5 and they can work their way around Vista Media Center no problem (they even "get" pause live TV which is an enigma to many adults who come to my house).

Fun way to make use of the old xbox all the same.
