I have narrowed my options down to Tegral Thrutone and Supercem. I have not bargained yet, but the prices I have received so far are 1.25 and 1.07 Ex VAT respectivley.

For the 3,240 slates I will need, the price difference will end up at €705. I see no major asthetic difference between the two (bar the Supercem being blacker - which I kinda like). Both have a 30 yr structural guarantee. The Thrutone has a 20yr colour guarantee compared with the Supercems 10yr....

Is there anything else I should be aware of??? Have people gotten either slate for cheaper??

    Thanks.

One big difference is that the Thrutone are coulored right through whereas the supercem are still white fibre/cement on the inside which leaves them that wee bit more vulnerable to loosing their colour from weathering. Thats why you get a longer colour guarantee with the thrutone.

Other than that I dont really see much difference in them apart from the price ;)

Said it to my project manager last night - he was less than impressed with the Supercem idea.... He suggested a Tegral Elite slate, which he has found is comparable in terms of quality with the Thrutone, but a little cheaper...

When I looked on the tegral website I found no mention of these Elite slates... Is anyone else familiar with them???

newname - Haven't looked at the Ardonit slates, will look into that in the next few days - thanks.....

Getfit, do you have any info on the Elite slates, I've been on Tegrals site and there is no mention of them.

Where has your project bought them ?

We used Roadstone Slates on our roof
    60 year structural guarantee
Easy to fix and cost about half the price of asbestos/fibre cement slates
Ideal for dormer roof as you can throw a ladder up on them and walk away either on the ladder or the slates as they are virtually in destructible when your painting the chimney/windows or re aligning the aerial or satelite dish
Tiles are now more aesthetically pleasing with new thin leading edge technology
    Can be cleaned etc
We are very pleased with our concrete slate roof

You should try CAPCO for the slates, colour guaranteed and you can negociate a good price depending on the quantity, worth a phone call.
