Diesel engine tuning

hi folks. i have a hyundai sante fe diesel which is not as good on fuel as it used to be. i have serviced it regularly but never had it tuned. could that be the problem . is engine tuning more important with a petrol engine. finally where is a good place to have it tuned in dublin thanks
