Hi all. I was just wondering if anyone might have any advice for me. Going for an interview later for a county council job (engineering). Does anyone know what I can expect? I'd really appreciate any help at all. Thank you

Firstly go on county council website, vital that you do your research. You will definately be asked about some of the following as well as about your CV.find out about the following:County development plan, Budgets - where is money spent, housing/roads etc.County Managers report,Annual report, name of County manager,Engineering job so find out about structure of engineering department, head of, what is department budget - where does this money come from?Check the news section on website - check there for recent developments. Is it first round interview? Know your CV really well - why do you want to work in County council.what can you bring to the job.etc,Different councils would have different formats etc but generally you will find out some information in the HR/recruitment section of the CC website.Research is vital, maybe call the HR department in the council - ask what to expect, format etc. Google county council interviews.tends to be 2-3 people interviewing, one HR and one from department.Competition will be high - especially in current climate so vital that you know your information. Best of Luck

I presume that you filled out an application form rather than submitting your CV as this is the norm for jobs in the public sector.

Your interview will be competency based, they will ask you about the topics on the application form. These are generally two categories, mandatory requirements (i.e. degree); and favourable qualities (i.e. project management expereience, health & safety experience). This is so that they can ask all the candidates the same questions and mark them based on their answers.

Look up the job spec and the list of requirements and just be prepared to answer any questions which may arise from them.
