Depends on what you're in to.

    Sci-Fi, Battlestar Galactica.
    Comedy, The IT Crowd.
Cops, The Wire or The Shield
Chickflick type shite, Gray's Anatomy. Apparently it's quite popular.

There's always The Sopranos of course, if you haven't seen it. Worth watching. Also Band of Brothers. Seen box-sets in Xavvi for about €30 recently too.

saying battlestar galactica is good is like saying that downing 2 ltrs of whiskey in five minutes will leave you with a slight wobble in your walk.

Rent it first then if you like it, buy it. I'm tempted to get the BSG DVD but is it something like Star Trek or Stargate or Firefly?

The West Wing. Best drama series and lots of humour thrown in.
Fantastic writing and very well acted.

Agreed. It goes a bit wobbly in some of the later series, but the last one is right back on form.

For an old series, has anyone watched Roots? Powerful stuff.

Im currently watching Black Books, very funny. Flight of the Concords is also brilliant if your looking for a comedy to watch.

I'd recommend Supernatural and Burn Notice

The Shield - the best cop series ever shown on TV.

Brilliant. That first episode nearly knocked me off my couch.

You'd buy Sopranos online for a little more than the cost of renting, plus it takes a while to get through all the episodes.

BSG is nothing like Star Trek, Stargate or Firefly. It's far more character driven. If it wasn't set in Space, it would be 99% the exact same show. Space and robots are just bonus. In that respect, it might be slightly like Firefly, but that never got a chance to develop.

Well I tried to watch Serenity and I could only watch about 20 mins of it. Not my kind of film.

Apparently you have to have seen the TV series to appreciate the film, but it has something of a cult following on boards, which I just can't understand.

For comedy, I'd recommend Arrested Development. The US Office is very good, though the first season tried to mimic the UK plot lines too closely for me.
