Pearl Bass Guitars

    Hi,

I have a Pearl bass Guitar - same manufacturer that specialise in making Drums. It's the same style as a fender precision bass - a copy essentially, though it plays quite well. I know pearl made electric guitars at some stage as well, though they now seem to only make precussion instruments and flutes.

I was wondering does anyone know anything about their bass guitars? I believe it's from the 1980s. There is nothing on the net at all.

    Thanks,
    RR

Do you have any pictures of it?

I'd be able to identify it better. ;)

Woa thats fairly weird alright, never seen a pearl bass before.

Reminds me of the marshall guitar my cousin has, never heard nor seen any other one ever. And cant find anything on the net about it.

I have an idea about it, but do you have a picture of the neck plate? :)

If memory serves me well, they used to have them in Musicmaker back in the late 80's/early 90's. Pretty cheap IIRC, not bargain basement but not mid range either.

I think they may have been a low end offering from Matsumoku but I ain't 100% sure, that's why I asked for a picture of the neckplate. :)

I remember a pal of mine having a Pearl Les Paul copy during the 80's, and even then it was considered odd, because as you say, they are more renowned for drumkits. It was very sturdy and it weighed a ton but was quite playable.

Thanks lads for the info. I'll get a photo of the neck plate tonight and post it. As far as I remember there is nothing on it though! I'll check.

Yes Pearl made Les Paul copies as well. The guitarist from Irish Band Blink has one and plays it live all the time. Pic here.

I reckon it's a pretty cheap copy as well but like the guy on the other forum says - the neck is really great on it and it plays very well.

    Cheers,
    RR

I had a Pearl Les Paul in the mid 80s
They were built in Japan by Matsumoku
Alder body with Dimarzio pickups as standard

It was my first guitar repair as I broke the neck at the tenon joint
Stripped it back to the bare wood, re-set the neck & then re-finished it as a silvertop with black back

It was a very well made guitar
The basses probably had decent pickups as well !
