Seeking career advice.

Firstly, apologies for starting another careers thread, but I've realised that there are a few professionals on here and I'd love some advice on a dilemma I'm currently facing.

I'm a huge sports fan, and would love nothing more than to cover it for a living, be that in broadcast or in written form. Now, at the moment, I'm working a good weekend job which is in broadcasting (though not exclusively in sport), and obviously that's something I'd like not to have to give up. However, as it's the weekend that I work, that makes going to matches impossible.

I'm willing to serve my dues. I realise that I won't be working for a national any time soon. However, my writing is good and I have received recognition for it. I believe I can do a good job, but I'm not sure how to go about getting that first tep into the business.

I'd love to find a compromise which would allow me to do both, though I'm not sure how possible that would be. I was thinking about keeping a sports blog, though I'm not sure how that would be perceived by editors in a portfolio. I'd also like to perhaps write for a website on stuff that I can watch on TV, but I'm not sure how to go about doing this. I'm also willing to write about non-sporting issues, but as I said that is my passion and my ultimate goal also so it would be my preference.

I'm just wondering if anyone would have any advice. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
