    okay,last question and i'll stop....for a while

i was reading somewhere else in this forum about shooting rabbits with a .22.

can you buy silenced rifles and how quiet are they
i'm not talking a super duper yoke for 2 grand but something cheap and cheerful and quiet?

A .22lr shooting subsonic rounds through a good moderator is pretty quiet.

There are a few people here with CZ 452s with moderators on them. They seem to be well regarded rifles and they're not too pricey either.

I have the .22 CZ452 (€450 new) with a moderator (€30 new) threaded on to it. Very quiet, very effective with WinX subs. Zeroed for 85yds, but that's my choice.

Um. Just in case, don't forget you need the super's permission for the moderator as well as for the rifle...

Somehow, I know what a .22lr with moderator and sub-sonic bullets sounds like, it sounds like a firing pin hitting a primer, then a thump wherever the rifle is pointed at.

You'd think that alright but it's not the case - depends on the weather and where you take the shot but sometimes there can be a fair amount of noise.

It's the noise caused when the hot gases hit the cool air that the mod tries to eliminate - some gas is obviously always going to escape. Won't you also have the noise of the actual explosion taking place in the chamber.
