    Hi!

I have a HP Pavilion dv1225ea laptop and the backlight has packed it in. Is this sort of thing easy to replace DIY style? I'm not an electronic eng or anything but I am good with my hands. Any advice appreciated!

    Thanks.

    :)

    Hi Flamed,

Not generally, it can be a pig depending on the type of monitor; If you private message me your Serial Number ill look up on the Internal System to see if theres orderable parts and a Public Disassembly manual.

No Personal information can be obtained using the Serial Number.

I think I figured it out actually. This seemed to match my symptoms.

yep that will hopefully sort you out. That converts the voltage for the screen.

If unfortunately it doesnt, it means the actual bulb (is integrated into the LCD panel itself) is busted somehow, so you will need to replace that panel; which can cost in the ballpark of US$200-300

If thats the case I will just buy a new laptop, its not worth throwing that much into.

    Try:

Ill have a look on our own internal SAW system to see if there is a known issue with Backlight failure on this model.

i actually fix laptop screens for a living. Now the backlight is a common fail but won't be easy to fix if u haven't done it before. it involes opening up the LCD and removing the diffusers, taking out the backlight and replacing it all while getting no dust into the screen and not damaging the internal parts. we do all this in a clean room. firstly can you take the screen part away from the laptop itself. Then open up the screen and see what the model number is eg LP140W....I will see can I help u out...it's a disgrace the price they charge just for a bulb..

The inverter fix worked a treat anyway. Phew!
