We are looking at getting a Project/LCD/Plasma in for presentations in the meeting room and so on. It would need to be able to show standard text also [by this I mean website text and so on].

    What would people recommend?

i would recommend an LCD as with plasma in a board room situation it would do it any favours.

obviously a projector will have a bigger screen for a better price but the LCD will give a clearer, brighter image.

how much and what size did you have in mind?

37" and up I think. My concern is that the bigger we go the more difficult it may be to see text properly? Particular if displaying Word docs/Websites and so on

Or have I got it backwards?

Lots of factors to take into account.
    What size is the boardroom?
How far away from the screen will everybody be sitting?
How often will the system be used?
Is it possible to darken the room? Projectors need dark rooms for optimal performance.
What and how many sources do you want to connect to the system?
Can you get cables etc to the ceiling for a projector? If so then this is definitely the way to go I would say.
Give us as much information as possible and it will help us give you some better solutions.
If it is a typical boardroom application with everybody sitting around a table and it is not going to be used for long periods every day (projector bulbs are expensive) then a projector would probably be ideal.
A 37"/40" LCD I would say is going to be far too small to properly read text for everybody. Remember a projector can give you more than double that size screen while maintaining clarity of image!
    Just my 0.2cents.

    I agree with industria.

If your going to use a 37" -42" LCD/Plasma and you intend to view text from word doc's and websites then your viewing distance will need to be a max of 3-4 feet.

For this very reason the projector is the common tool used for presentation and boardroom applications.

Budget allowing, things like brightness and resolution can be easily addressed with 4000-5000 lumens projectors falling well below the 2K mark and alot of projectors coming available with WXGA resolution (1280x768). This will give you a very good bright and detailed image up to 120" diagional depening on the amount of sunlight getting into the room.

If the amount of light entering the room can be controlled, and your screen size is below 80" then you might get away with a XGA 2500 - 3000 lumen projector.
This will keep the projector around the 1K mark.

    HTH.

    Hi Shootin,

I wouldn't rate Dell projectors very high. Dell dont built projectors, they usually buy an E.g Optoma and slap a different cover on it.

For your requirement I'd recomment a NEC,Mitsubishi, or Optoma projector.

If the budget allows for it I'd recommend a WXGA projector which will be a step up interms of resolution against an XGA models.

2500 lumens and above is normally suitable for most application.
