    Lads,
Looking for a bit of info about South County. I have all the joining info and prices but I was looking for a bit off feedback. Has anyone here taken them up on the Membership lease for 2k? Just wondering about how the other members are looking at these new members? How busy is it at the weekend (ie. are all the saturday.sunday slots gone by the monday)? Any other info would be great.

    Thanks

    Admiral:confused:

I believe ShriekingSheet is a member of SC, so you won't have to wait long before you see a response from him. If he doesn't reply by this evening, maybe best to drop him a PM.

I took up the 2k membership this year having previously been a student member 3 years ago.

I had a good look round other courses before joining but I love SC I must say.

    Course
7,000 yard+ Par 72 championship course. Bielenburg designed interesting lay out, well kept despite greens being bad earlier in the year they are now much improved and set to improve further over the summer.

    Facilities
Driving range with grass bays. 2 practice greens. Pitching area (50 yards) with practice bunkers. Really nice clubhouse with a nice bar and great food. Proper locker rooms, good showers and all that. Good pro shop and Ramy Burns (ex European Tour player) is good for range and playing lessons.

    Competition Booking
Online timesheets that go up 10 days in advance at 1pm on a Friday. Usually slots available up until a couple of days before the comp. If you want your pick of slots I usually log in on the Monday when I get into work and there's a good choice. Comps are very well attended but the course is rarely too busy to either come up on spec for a comp or slip out for 9 after work. Wednesday is a sem-open singles comp where you can invite guests up for 25 quid to play in the comp. Retired guys play during the day and the working guys play later so it always gets plenty of entrants. This time of year not too hard to get on the sheet with the long evenings.

    General Atmosphere
It's very much a club in the traditional sense. The vast majority of players have at least drink after their round in the clubhouse and watch a bit of golf or football on the tele. The 2k includes 300e levey which encourages this. All interclub teams are well managed and there's good competition for places. For beginners and higher h'caps we play in both the Best Cup and Straffan Cup (18-20 h'caps).
There are BBQs and social nights where buses are organised from Dublin suburbs and back as well. Same for the Captains dinner I think.
Not sure what you mean by how leasing members are looked upon by other members but there's absolutely no difference of treatment. I know plenty of members and couldn't tell you what memberships any of them have - it's just not an issue.

Despite the current climate there has been a steady flow of new memberships in the last few months which is great to see.

It's a friendly club and if you're prepared to put your name down on your own or with people you don't know on the timesheet and just gradually get to know people you'll settle right in in no time.

I know I always rant about my club but I've try keep to objective stuff above.
