Do you check the weather forecast?

Another typical Irish summers morning... grab my light jacket and umbrella before heading out. Pretty sure the forecast for the week was varied. Despite a lovely sunny morning, the reports of 'heavy showers' in the afternoon and evening reaffirm my desicion to be laden down with jacket and brolley.
But looks like plenty of others just dress according to what the weather looks like... cue a lot of people wearing shorts / light clothes and flip-flops.

Maybe it's a sign of getting old, or the many times I've been caught out being soaked while waiting for the bus, but I always try and catch the weather for the day or week ahead.

    Do you?

Wonder if I'll see Ms flip-flops splashing around on the way home...

I always check the forecast and then dress / arm up with rain gear accordingly!

I wouldn't bother much, and would dress depending what the morning looks like.

Indeed. I've often wondered where the job satisfaction in being wrong so often is.

I always assume it's going to rain at some point so have a light jacket on. If the day gets hot I just stick it in my "man bag".

If i plan on doing something specific outside then i will check....other than that, nope.

I look out the window at the clouds and decide upon how they look. Its about 5min or 15min walk to/from the bus so even if it was raining its nothing too bad to be stuck in.

I spend a minute looking at the sky and try to judge for myself. I rarely, if ever, check the forcast t.v.

Not as bad as Martin King who allegedly has sexual relations with all the grannies that he greets on the weather.

Every morning - because i cycle to work... but the met report is rubbish - like when you see their map with a large cloud with rain coming out of it and a sun behind it over most of leinster -not so accurate.

So i use The Rainfall Radar. Doesn't predict the weather, but shows you any rain over the last few hours. Usually good enough to predict whether ill need to put on rain gear or not.

Nah, can't remember the last time I looked at the weather. I always carry a bag with me for all my clutter - books, phone, keys, wallet, mp3 player, etc and having been brought up in Ireland it also has a pair of North Face waterproof pants and jacket! They haven't seen much use since I left Ireland though, blue sky, 30 degrees outside now :)

So that's why he gives an auld wink when he says "Thing are looking up for the weekend". The filthy sod.

I don't bother. I just expect the worse, so I'm either happy that I'm right, or pleasantly surprised that it's not pissing down.

You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

No I don't bother checking daily. If I'm going somewhere, then I might check, but it's rarely accurate in my experience.

Example: went hiking for 3 days recently. The forecast said wednesday would be p*ssing down, thursday would be calm enough, and friday would be torrential. Consequently we brought 3 changes of clothes, and only 1 bottle of water (rather than 2). The sun was splitting the rocks. We all got burned to bits. We had to shed some of the clothes cos it was too hot to carry so much weight. We went through water too quickly, and spent alot of time parched.

The lesson: don't trust any climatologists.

I bet the people who work at Met Eireann do the same thing.

I have a weather forecast gadget on my Google Sidebar.

Its either weather or how fast/slow the day is going in work, thats all people ever talk about, so i sometimes pick it up.

The Boss- "The days going really slow"
Me- "Time does not speed up or slow down!"
Dope From Work- "It feels like it is..."

Time and weather is not something to constantly talk about.

I don't really bother unless I want to get stuff done outside over the next few days or unless I am travelling somewhere and want to know airport conditions, etc.

I don't know where people get the idea that weather forecasts are wrong. RTE is not particularly pretty looking but their short term forecasts are correct otherwise they would all be fired i would imagine!

They may predict heavy rain moving in but where do you live? Did you bother checking to see where it will rain. It may be confined to the north or the south. It may die as it crosses the country meaning the west gets it worst than the east. If showers are predicted some areas will get 10 during the day some will get none. That's why they're called showers. It depends where they develop and what way they are moving.

They wil be more accurate the closer the day is to the forecast. On Monday they can give an idea of what may happen on Saturday but generally it won't be until Wednesday or Thursday that they can give more specific information or changes in previous longer range forecasts.

Tonight there is a threat of more showers. Tomorrow is going to be showery. Some of them heavy or thundery. There will be sunny spells also. Showers should decrease in the east later in the day. This is what RTE are saying about tomorrow and i'm thinking it will be accurate. Maybe you will get lucky and miss a shower and enjoy your unfair share of sun. Maybe you'll be hit over and over.

My own thinking is that the worst rain/showers will be in Leinster in the morning/early afternoon which will move to the North drying up behind. Outside of this the chance of showers anywhere. Now that MIGHT be wrong. :pac::pac::pac:

Yup, since my work involves needing to know how much dry time (if any) I'll have that day.
I like the weather, the science behind it, so I enjoy looking at the forecasts, even when it's telling me bad things...like showing you saturday afternonn with a big clump of raincloud parked over the country
