Windows with blinds inside glass?

Hi just looking around for windows for our self build. Saw windows on an episode of Grand Designs with a venetian blind between the glazing of the window.

Was speaking to an Irish window company and they hadn't a clue what we were on about. Anyone know of a company who supplies/makes these?

It can't be that difficult to find as a roof window company, (not the no. 1 market leader) provides roof-lights with blinds between the panes of glass. Have been doing so for a number of years, in Ireland.

I assume that double glazing with Argon gas in the cavity will become very important in the future. I assume the blinds will lower the windows overall rating / u-value. Have you considered this problem?

Ok will ring around - just this particular company is very well known and hadn't a clue what we were on about.

Thought about the u value impact but also thought about the hours of dusting over a life time ;)

I know that crospectrum.com can provide. Was down an discussed as option but expensive
Also saw that ep of grand designs and as far as i know they were on one ep of "about the house". Most of the programs have a web site with a supplier page for each.

AFAIK there are no irish manufactures that do them. Mainly german/Finnish

If you seen it on grand designs, then find the house on the channel four website. They keep a summary of each episode, about 7 webpages detailing the job, the last pages being references, architect, contractor, right down to suppliers of bespoke items, including windows

We have just had our offices revamped and got it done by a local contractor in cork €480/m2 not sure if i can mention his name! Looks very good, he is not a window company as such but you could try them!

I used similar in a car sales showroom about 12 years ago, they were for internal use only though, between sales offices and showroom floor. They were in a double glazed unit but the glazing could not be fully sealed as the mechanism for opening and closing the blinds compromised this aspect. This is probably of no use but Im sure I can dig out the supplier if you wish, just PM me, I'm sure they came from Scotland.

I am 99% cetain that they don't, sort of. Thats Capco roofing :D, They do slates and tiles. However, they a number of other devisions that might. They certainly hava devisin called CapcoCPD, which is interiors.
They are part of the SIG group which distribute a range of products, insulation being a big one, bit one of them might be involved with said window

OP, I looked into the project on grand designs. The house was built as a "kit house", I then looked into the kit manfacturer, and found their window supplier, and there is no sign of internal glazing blinds. Its very very strange that the window manufacturer, wasn't listed on the grand designs page, as they lit everything, down t plumbing traps.

They do however list the architect, it might be a long shot, but try contact him, he likely will remember the window company, and he might part with that info.

A few UK suppliers use an Italian product called 'Screenline'. Example.

I have those windows in my office at work. New Car showroom opened in January and all the internal sales offices and the offices on the mezzanine area have them. There are 3 about 1200mm wide units for each office. The horizonal blinds are controlled by a knob beside each unit. Most people don't notice the blinds are enclosed in the double glazed unit and are very impressed when they realise.

I'll try and find out which subcontractor supplied windows tommorrow.

(I have to say I can't imagine them outside the office environment but maybe thats just me!)

Ok, lookin into vaious comanies in SIG, one of there internal companies are "Tenon".
Who do internal partitions, one or two lines are glazed, with an internal blinds feature

Check out the "Scion" and "Ovation" range, they include said blinds
    http://www.tenon.ie/inside.asp?pageId=821&sectionId=21&level=2

Did you by any chance mistake these for external windows?

Right lads/lassies. This thread needs a wee bit of clarity in relation to the charter - ie. naming firms/businesses/companies.

As stated in the charter we dont want individuals or firms named in the various threads for obvious reasons. If we feel that naming a company which is unique and which will prove to be beneficial to the wider community here and is done so by one of the regular contributers then we will normally let it slide. This is a discussion forum after all and we would all like to share but if possible PM the details to the OP.

However what will not be allowed is someone signing up and naming or providing a link to a firm with their very first post.

The bigger companies dont need advertising and any mention of the likes of Roadstone, Velux, Kingspan, Tegral etc is fine.

In summary if you have a good track record here and wish to post up a firm name in order to help the wider community then I dont think you will see any red cards coming your way. If in any doubt just PM any of the forum mods in advance.

    Cheers.
