Very small following for s.hito ryu in Ireland it seems.
You could try contacting Onakai and see if they know of any clubs that practise s.hito (although Onakai is mainly concerned with sport karate only)

I've attended loads of comps in the past and I can only recall one s.hito guy ever.....and I don't think he was from Ireland

Aye, co. Galway is kind of the main area for ****o-ryu, there are a dozen clubs here and there. I haven't been a ****o-ryu student for years, so things have undoubtedly changed a bit, but there should still be clubs going strong in Galway city, Ballinasloe, Kiltormer, Eyrecourt, Loughrea, Lawrencetown, and likely a few other areas. Ballinasloe is the Irish head's (Leo Mulvaney, a fantastic fellow) club, if anyone knows where you might find a club closer to home it's him. I can probably find some contact details if you'd like to get in touch with him.

    Hope that helps :)

Thanks guys for your replies, its much apreciated. So i think its either stick with shotokan or move to galway!!!i think i'll be staying put!i'll contact the clubs in galway on the off chance they have a connection in dublin.it seems that there's not any goju ryu around either, just as choice for people to pick or try out other styles from japan.i think people have either wado or shotokan as there main options and of course kyokushin.....just out of interest While this tread is still active does anybody know of any goju ryu or any okinawan styles around dublin.'(i know there is a couple of shorinji ryu clubs in west meath).put that seems to be about it in my knowledge.things seem a bit limited in ireland when it comes to choice of karate styles(though the styles that dominate;wado, shotokan do have many exellent irish technicians and are iffiliated to the main japanese orginizations which offer their students and members great opportunities to train with the cream of the crop from japan and around the world)but i feel its still limited when it comes to choice of style.(which may change soon ,i hope, as ireland seems to have changed rapidly in a small number of years and this may bring more karate oppertunitiesfor everyone interested).thanks guys!!

I think there are Kyukushin clubs in Dublin, perhaps in Finglas and Killester. I know there is a Kyukushin coach that reads these boards from time to time. There is also Kyukushin budokwai on the richmond rd in www.mmaireland.com which combines kykushin karate with grappling. check their website out.

    123fred,

I understand that there are two interpretations of Sh1to-ryu in Ireland, Sh1to-ryu Itosu Kai [mostly found in Galway area] and Sh1to-ryu Kofukan, I think still in existence in Donegal area, the instructor there also had links with Ryukyu Kempo.

Ryukyu Kempo can be found in Ireland if you Google it, as can a number of Shorin Ryu clubs.

There seems to be a number of Wado-ryu organisations out there as well.

There was an ‘Okinawan Karate Club’ in or close to Castlebar Co Mayo but I understand that the instructor has moved on.

There is growing interest in Koryu Uchinadi Kenpo Jutsu
www.koryu-uchinadi.com in Ireland with a number of clubs teaching KU concepts, ranging from additions to their base style to working towards a complete transition to KU.

If you’re interested in KU then study groups are being formed in Dublin, Monaghan, Belfast, Cork, and Galway etc
