    Anyone ever read this?

Free upgrades and such just from reading a book/report?

It looks like BS. It's unlikely there's any real "secrets" in there that aren't widely on free websites.

"Free" upgrades are (almost always) given to elites in the airlines frequent flyer programme, or in the programme of one of their alliance partners. After that they'd be given to full-fare economy. Full fare economy on most flights is at least four - five times the price of most discount economy fares. Plus there are a huge amount of other factors (who you're travelling with, if you've ordered special meals, etc).

The best way to get into business/first is to join a frequent flyer programme and try to stick to flying within one alliance. Even then it's a matter of how much you fly and what routes you're on. I wouldn't hold out much hope for free upgrades.

    What mcic said ^^

The only way to be certainly upgraded is to pay for it with cold hard cash ;)

That mailing list is about frequent flyer clubs, ways to get extra miles ...etc...etc... which can be used for upgrades if you use the airline alot....

If it sounds too good to be true - it probably is! One of my favourite sayings.

I fly quite a lot, and have very occasionally been upgraded, and never when I have asked (very politely!) if it was a possibility. Lovely surprise when it does happen though!

I've been upgraded twice, on the same trip - London to Washington DC with Virgin airlines. Going out Terminal one in Heathrow went on fire and we were very late checking in for the Virgin flight, as myself and my friend had selected seats together we were so late they had given out seats away so they upgraded us to preminum economy - tbh it wasn't much different than econony, a bit more room but that was it. Same food and toiletries.

Coming home though, again we were late (Not usually that bad) and we were in the last group to check in, again no seats together so they upgraded us to first class which was fab - great food (the best steak I've ever had), real cutlery, lots of tv stations, massages, free drink and snacks and food from the menu whenever you wanted. They took our coats and hung them up, the seats went flat and we had pj's to change into if we wanted. I nearly cried when we landed at Heathrow, didn't want to get off the plane and have to get my ryanair flight home! THe really funny thing is this was a few years ago at Christmas when a few BA flights in Washington were grounded because of terroist threats. Our own plane was on the tarmac for about 2 hours because of a problem with one passenger who was eventually taken off the plane, and yes he looked Arabic. But when we were getting onto the plane they checked everyone's handluggage just before the plane's doors (this is after the usual security checks as well) but they didn't check any first class passengers luggage, we were all waved straight through. Completely bizzare.
