My buddies and I are looking at overnighting in Helsinki airport as we'll be arriving in there after midnight at the end of the month and don't want to to book a hotel room just for that one night...

Has anyone every been to that airport and would it generally be ok to be around in at night? I don't want to take over the place for sleeping purposes but simply sit down and have a small kip but keep out of everyone's way until the morning and we can get going to ouir hotel on the bus service....

Are there no buses or trains when you arrive? It's not that far into the city, a taxi between a group of people shouldn't cost much, cheaper than staying around the airport. Last time I was there it cost me €13 for a sandwich and a beer (which is only 0.4L and comes in a 0.5L glass :()

There is a bus service yeah and taxis and all of that , even trains I think. Only thing is we save about €70 per person by not spending in the airport and simply not using a hotel on that forst night!!!

Is it worth it I wonder...

If you're really stuck for €70 then Helsinki was the wrong place to be going to!

I've done it before due to no accommodation being available in Stockholm (bus station) and Amsterdam (train station) and have to say it's not worth it. Impossible to get comfortable, you are afraid to sleep in case someone runs away with your bag and the security people might not be impressed. I woke up in the Amsterdam train station to see my mate getting a kick to the mid-section by the security guy who told us to leave!
