Prince Charles has a new toy, an Aston Martin that runs on white wine and cheese

I thought this was hilarious for a minute, then thought of it as a symbol of the greater biofuel/food shortage issue, and was a sad panda...

I am a believer in biofuels myself, I think plants like Jatropha/Palm/Rapeseed for biodiesel fuels could be just the ticket (as part of a multi-pronged initiative including a good nuclear programme, expanded renewables and energy conservation measures like CFL lights, public transport, restrictions on "gas guzzler" vehicles etc, but this does sound crazy.

However, in your article, I spotted this: "surplus white wine" so presumably this means wine that the winery would have had to dispose of or sell off by the liter even cheaper than petrol substitute it produced. The wine itself may even be of a 2nd rate or even non-drinkable quality.

I would be curious to find out about this cheese though

Maxol's Bioethanol is made from Whey - a by product of cheese production in Carbery co-op in cork.

So if you fill on BE in Ireland, it's cheese (ish).
