    Hi All,

Firstly a big hello and well done to all on this forum !!! Great forum and lots of positive comments. :D

Firstly moderators I am not looking for business (well maybe in future!!). Anyway I am MD of Sevenoaks Sound & Vision Ireland, we have just secured rights for Ireland and are planning to open a Custom Install showroom in Dublin.
But after reading through various threads there seems to be need for good HiFi & video retailer in Dublin. We were not planning retail store but interested in as much feedback.... Maybe we could be persuaded !!!

    Interested in your thoughts ...
    Cheers in advance.

    Maurice

Oh, you would be most welcome. I recently bought a couple of grands worth of speakers from SSAV Edinburgh because I couldn't source any of the speakers choices I had shortlisted in Ireland. Richersounds would be the only other Irish shop I purchase from. We need a quality showroom / retail outlet here. I just bought ALL of my AV equipment blind. I'm sick of reading threads over on avforums, where everyone is able to go to their local showroom and demo the brands that I would love to demo. I'm sure there's a big demand for it in Ireland, especially Dublin. How many apartments etc have sprung up around Dublin in the last five years, mostly bought by young tech savvy couples. The market is there.

SevenOakes would indeed be very welcome here on the retail front... I've always found the guys in the UK (and particularly in Edinburgh) to be very helpful and genuinely friendly even though I made it clear I was a tourist and not buying.

That said a lot of traders have come and gone over the years and really only Cloney Audio remain. First because they stock real HiFi and secondly their customer service is very good. I never buy blind from them and regularly borrow stuff to demo. It's in their own interests!

I agree with the post by aaf - although in my case it was SSAV Nothingham.

Hello and welcome............... an interesting development, hopefully more choice for us. I've copied your thread to the Speakers and Amps forums to give it wider coverage.

You might be aware from browsing the forum that we have a number of regular posters who are connected with existing retailers - their presence is very welcome as it provides a good avenue of communication for us for details etc. and no doubt helps them in term of visibility, goodwill etc. We would welcome news from you as your project develops.

If you have any queries feel free to check with me by PM or check with the other Mods.

    Hi Maurice,

I just googled "Sevenoaks Dublin" after seeing a comment in your ad in this month's Home Cinema Choice magazine.

It really would be great news if a decent, value-oriented AV / hi-fi retailer did enter the ROI marketplace.

There are some very good dealers already here, with excellent service, but (hang on while i slip my cynical hat on) few offer a comparitive level of value, IMO (I'm going off on another rant here, but I still don't accept that overheads, tax, transit, etc. in Ireland could possibly result in a TV costing €900 more than the same TV if bought from the UK, without a hefty amount of profiteering being involved).

I hope that if SSAV do enter the Irish market as an AV / hi-fi retailer, they don't go down the route of "well these Paddies seem happy to spend 30% more on their AV products than the UK folk do - let's cash in on that and charge the same!".

I know I'm not alone in my cynicism towards retailers in Ireland - the www has made it very easy for Irish consumers to see that we really are being ripped off.

Given that SSAV's (or any other UK AV chain's) UK prices are so visible online, it would be very interesting to see what happened, from a comparitive price perspective, if they did enter Ireland.

I'd hope that you'd do similar to what Richersounds are doing (albeit from the North) - same products, good service, better prices.

Ok and before anybody says it, I don't work for SevenOaks or even remotely affiliated to them, but as i said earlier i went back for more this time got the Denon 2500BT bluray at a competitive price and service with a smile as before and the Denon is a player to die for :D
It is good to have some good competition among the HiFI and Home cinema dealers in Ireland at last, and SevenOaks is certainly a worthy addition

I recently bought a pioneer plasma from sevenoaks - a guy called John. I'm over the moon with it. Got them to install it as well. Very tidy job. I'll be going back to them for sure

    Maurice,
Any chance you'd get the guys in the UK to do something about the website. It's dreadful from an Irish perspective (no address, no prices, no clearance items in Dublin store, ...):(

    Hi MauriceD,

Had one experience of Sevenoaks when I was living in the UK and it was very positive.

Delighted to see a(nother) decent retailer from which to choose. Hope you can at least match the quality of service, value and expertise from the guys at Richersounds.

Think you guys might need to spend some marketing bucks and let people know you're here though!

There's little point in bumping this thread sporadically - it was started as a straw poll and has served its purpose at this stage so the thread is now closed.

    Thanks,

    Ritz.
