Acer - No Audio

I've got an acer aspire 5920, and at the moment there is no sound coming from the speakers.

I bought the laptop in january and within two days the sound had stopped working. I sent it back under warranty and it was repaired and has worked fine since.

Recently it seemed a little slow so i reloaded the operating system and since then there has been no sound when watching videos or trying to listen to any form of audio. ( i did reload the operating system before without any problems and have followed the same procedure )

If i go into control panel, then into hardware and sound, all volumes are up. If I do a speaker test, sound does come from the machine, but if i do a test on "Realtek Digital Output" ther is no sound, but ther is a green graffic bouncing around with whatever sound it is trying to make, also it claims that "Realtek Digital Output" is working.

The computer is still under warranty, but if at all possible I would like to avoid being without it, i think it would have to go to NI if i have to send it back.

    Any ideas?

Do you have a driver disc that came with the machine? Try and reinstall the sound driver and see if it makes any difference.

No cd came with the laptop, just a leaflet which outlined the set up procedure.
There was a user guide aswell, but that just suggests that you check that the sound is not muted.

Should also mention, that there is also no audio through the headphones.

    sounds like a driver porblem.
go here, choose your option and download the driver http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5920.html
let us know if it works for ya.

just realised, you may have had service pack 1 running originally, when you reinstalled the os it went back to original vista, pre service pack 1. there are differnt drivers for both on teh caer site.

    hope this helps.

if this doesnt help, when booting press f2 or equivient to enter your bios setup. check that the sound idnt disabled in there. dont touch anything else though. remember to save and exit after if you have changed the sound setting. otherwise exit without saving.

it may be a motherboard error, or just a loose connector, but its highly doubtful as it happend just after an os reinstallation.

Thanks for the help lads, i just got it working.

Jackovarian, i should have mentioned yesterday, that i did download that driver, but it didn't make any difference.

Now in my first post here i said that when i did a test on the "realtek digital output" that there was a green graffic moving in time with the sound it was making, but no audio was coming through, despite the fact that the word "working" and a green circle with a correct sign were underneath.
When i did a speaker test there was sound coming through, well when i right clicked the speakers symbol, the last option was "set as default" when i clicked on this, the green circle/correct sign moved up to "speakers" and i had audio.

Now as is obvious from my posting here, i don't know one end of a computer from another, but at least it's now working and thanks for taking the time to try and help.
