Folks, I have to admit I have only played a small amount of SSB's on the N64 and thought it was okay, although I did not play it for that long.

Have read a few America Reviews but I would prefer reviews/opinion's from local people - if you get me.

Let me know if you think it is worth buying and why.

    thanks
    Alan

TBH I aint too impressed, but I haven't played it much yet and the online is busted which doesn't help. Still only cost €40 though :)

Really enjoying the new one. Great in multiplayer - 4 player is great fun. And it is one of the most interesting and comprehensive nostalgia pieces in gaming - so many references, nods and throwbacks to Nintendo history. Single player campaign isn't amazing though (fun, but simplistic and a little repetitive), but its a great fighting game overall, and for the amount of content a great value package.

Online is shocking bad, even with friends living nearby its a slow motion nightmare - if you can get everyone to connect in time. How 12 player Mario kart with connections worldwide can function near flawlessly while this 4 player effort cant is beyond me? Not as good as either of the previous outings so far for me.

Whaaat?! Dont listen to these guys, get out a gamecube controller and this is the best game on the Wii. The wealth of options is incredible too, some many modes that even if the online is broken (and it is), theres tons more to see and do. Definitely go for it, remember the naysayers havent played it that much, ive clocked up plenty of hrs in the past week!

Have to agree with you there. The wiimote is just awful for anything other than it's primary function . It's basically the same as using a nes controller. For a modern game.

Realized I had a gamecube controller packed away and wow, what a difference. Think I'll be buying a few more for multiplayer.

Well Smash Bros Melee is one of my fave games ever and I've only about 2 days experience playing but it seems... OK so far.

You have to get a gamecube controller I'd say, it's just the perfect thing for it. What makes Smash brothers is that it's very much a skill game... Just with slightly random occurences that make for hilarity. I'll give the game a bit longer before I have a balanced opinion but here are the things I've noticed:
It's a lot slower paced. C.Falcon felt like a snail, he's pretty much lost everything that made him a great character in Melee, Sonic is fast I suppose but if I can't run in, minihop and nail someone with a knee, I'm not all that interested.
It can get very crowded. Especially with all those cocking waddledees if you have items off. It was a tough job navigating my way through to someone to land a Mario combo without about 10 things in my way.
Some moves just seem silly, ofcourse I haven't playtested it much but it doesn't seem like a whole lot can get through Metaknights whirlwing, and what the hell kind of B move is Olimar's whistle?
