Apologies if this has aleady been brought up but how TV3 think they need 1 hour of build up for their matches is beyond me...After 5 mins you just want the bloody match to start.

Gotta love the commentary during the match. The commentator was so proud of his fact that Westmeath hadn't scored a goal against the Dubs in 782 years!!!!:D

    And Joe Kernan....great manager....poor co-commentator!

I think Mike Finnerty is an excellent commentator.

The panel is very good IMO.
Eugene Magee doesn't mince his words and Canavan is excellent also.
Pleasantly surprised with Matt also doing a very solid job.
The two 4.47 min commercial breaks at half time (friend of mine timed it) are a bit much.
Havn't watched the pre-match hour yet but you can be sure that if people are not watching it TV3 will eventually cut it down.
All about number of viewers and advertising revenue for stations that don't get a cut of the TV Licence fee.

One little thing that annoys me watching is that every few minutes we're 'reminded' to vote for 'your man of the match'. And that you could win a weekend away, ok I know they're trying to generate extra money but it got to the point that I was actually getting annoyed that the game was still going on but commentry was interupted to tell us for the 100th time* to vote!

    *Maybe a slight exageration

Mike Finnerty's a pretty decent commentator. Certainly as good as anything RTE has (I'm talking TV here now not radio). He's missed on Mid West

i think there coverage is good for their first year obviously a few teething problems but rte are at it for 40 years and they still can't get it right ie marty, ger canning, jim carney anthony daly is terrible always looks so nervous spillane is entertaining but should not be presenting.Regarding the build up of an hour I think its good better than it being not enough i don't watch the full build up but its nice to have the option

Havent watched the build-up yet but must say I think the panel is excellent. Analysis > personality any day. RTE could learn something. The man of the match thing does ring a bell alright, I remember thinking it would be odd for people to be voting for it during the first half ;) Thought the commentary was decent, takes time to settle in and seemed to be on a par with RTE's match commentary. Will try catch the build up and see what I have(nt) missed.

Mike Finnerty is terrible :eek:comments like 'the next score is vital' when its only 58mins on the clock !!! I knew he was on Mid West or should I say BOG WEST, he should have stayed there!!!! No edition to TV3....

Liking TV3s efforts so far. The commentator is much better than Canning or most others that RTE give us. Ok the co-commentators can be hit & miss. Hate listening to Kernan, its painful to endure. But some of the others have been good.
Regarding the far too long build up, they'll soon cop on. Next year it will be down to half an hour im sure. It reminds me of Skys early days doing the Premier League. They used to start at 2, for a game that kicked off at 4. Last few years they have copped on & start at 3 or 3.30 usually.

I think it excellent. Way above their attempts for Soccer and Rugby.

The commentator is light years above RTE's. Canning and Morrisey are very poor. Darragh Maloney is okay - but I think his heart is in Soccer. In fact he should be RTE's number 1 soccer commentator ahead of George Hamilton.

I think Darragh Maloney should be the number one commentator for RTE.His buildup speech to play, his facts and presentation are second to none.I can't honestly remember ever turning the sound down when he was commentating.Watch the Owen Mulligan goal against Dublin in 2005 and you'll know what I mean.

Ger Canning has been RTEs no.1 top commentator without being the best.He is well capable of calling a good match when he wants or when the match allows.I thought he did a good job for the Dublin-Derry game last year.

On the other hand,Marty Morrissey at his best is when Cork and Kerry play in the Munster Final. His voice is irritating and I hate the way he patronised the Sligo football team in their quarter final against Cork last year.

TV3 are doing a very good job.Cmaera angles need looking at but the punditry seems very objective and the one houe buildup is there for GAA fans who aren't doing anything other than looking forward to a good game of ball.I didn't think TV3 getting some rights would be a good thing but I have been pleasantly surprised and in actual fact,it is somewhat refreshing.

I think TV3's coverage is very good and definitely superior to RTE.why dont RTE do the game on monday anymore...it would be nice to be able to watch games during midweek in case you miss games by being involved yourself

Would they ever stop advertising their effing spa holiday breaks and prizes during the bloody game.
From what I remember the other day the commentator talked about holiday giveaway prize while the ball was in play
I don't want to hear about spa treatments and getways while the match is on.

Could you imagine Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh telling us something that has no relationship to the actual game, the players, their relatives or their pets?
Next thing we will have Joe Kernan giving health tips and detox advise on behalf of the shows sponsors

I am not allowed discuss …

Who gave Trevor Welch the nod to be a GAA commentator? It's atrocious stuff. Darragh Moloney's a soccer commentator, but he manages to modify his language slightly to suit. Welch goes all out with the soccer mannerisms.

Poor Kernan sounds like a tired old man reading out the obituaries on a pirate radio station in a shed in Armagh at midnight.

Matt Cooper is painful and interrupts his pundits too much.

The one hour before a match is milking the thing a bit. It just saves TV3 the bother of replaying a sub-standard British reality TV programme on a Sunday afternoon.
They'd be far better served with a half an hour. The pundits are surprisingly good though. Liam Hayes is a controversial journalist but is made to look very ordinary by the other pundits. Eugene McGee is the Johnny Giles of the three when he's on, not the most insightful but a traditionalistic GAA man to the core, always needed (like Cyril Farrell). Peter Canavan and David Moran are both interesting and articulate. But the main man must be Senan Connell, I think he's fantastic. He's really articulate and always answers questions head on. He doesn't suffer from a Dublin bias either. Very impressed.

I think the pundits are very good indiviually, but I'm afraid they lack a good anchor and the chemistry you'll get between Lyster, Rourke and Brolly.

I'm from Kerry, but I still take an interest in the hurling. I can't comment on TV3's hurling coverage though.

Marty is the worst ever IMO. All he does is constantly give stats about when someone made their debut and how many senior games they have played, reading all that off a sheet is a poor effort at commentary.the most annoying voice ever and he doesn't even get remotely excited anymore--Waterford-Wexford made me almost fall asleep even though it was close all the way. (he also looks like Mary Harney in drag), he was shown up on Podge and Rodge for the flute he is.

Have to agree - Senan Connell has to be the most impressive of all the pundits - concise - to the point and easily understood - the rest just waffle on about nothing before coming to any kind of a point. Won't be long before RTE come banging on his door. He would be an ideal choice as a co-commentator instead of big Joe - god he's awful...!!

Have to say I've been very impressed with TV3's GAA coverage having initially being dreading it based on their general way of doing things.

Matt Cooper is a very comfortable in the anchor and the analysts are better than RTE's IMO.

The commentators are nothing special, but at least they're better than the absolutely AWFUL Ger Canning. How that man is still commentating on sports he knows nothing about and cares even less about is a complete mystery to me. He is BRUTAL !!

Ger Canning is a disgrace. I can't understand how they let him on the radio. Why put on such a horrendously snotty accent to comment on hurling? You go back into studio and you hear Cyril Farrell and Michael Duignan with the biggest and best culchie accents around. That's the way it's meant to be.

One thing I must say though, I don't know which is worse: The Road to Croker or Championship Throw-in?

Both are really amateur. Why RTE got rid of Park Live is beyond me.

TV3 do all right for a station that are starting out, but IMO Matt Cooper is terrible - he takes the same attitude that he has on "The Last Word" (i.e. butting in all the time and being unnecessarily controversal)

Does anyone know how many more matches they are showing this year - I know they have Kerry v Monaghan on for SUnday afternoon, but after that I dont know. I can't see RTE letting them have a 1/4 or a 1/2 final in football or hurling.

Sunday is their last game of the season, they have 10 games a year for three years.

Stop being so pedantic. It was a simple error, which doesn't render my opinion null and void, like your sad delusions seem to inform you.

And Kojak, I think you're spot on about Cooper.

It was a simple error, which doesn't render my opinion null and void, like your sad delusions seem to inform you. never said your opinion was null and void your opinion is as important as anyones just pointing out its obvious you don't know your gaa if you make a mistake like that. its like the time bertie was on the premiership and called michael owen "michael owens" a mistake like that and would you say he knows the game, i think not

It was a mistake. Of course I can differentiate between David Moran and David Brady, I was just thinking of David Moran, the Kerry ace, at the time of posting.
It says a lot for your state of mind that you think a slight mistake like this is indicative of a person's knowledge of the game. Get a grip.

of course it was a mistake i'm only offering my "opinion"
