Possibly a stab in the dark here, but anyway..

I was just remembering the days when we could change the SMSC in our mobiles, from our network's SMSC to a foreign one. Result was free SMS sending.

'twas fun while it lasted, but I think one by one the foreign networks cottoned on, and closed the loop hole.

I'm just wondering, but does anyone know if you can still do it? I.E., are there any networks left that haven't closed the loophole?

I don't actually think it was the foreign networks that closed the loophole. I think it was our local networks that were able to limit what message centres we were able to use, so I honestly doubt it'd work now. Could be wrong though.

But it sure was great while it lasted. I remember there was a number in the United Arab Emirates that worked on Eircell for nearly 3 months before they copped it.

Wasnt really that they didnt charge, but they moved the charging "point" from the SMSC to the point where you actually send the message itself if you know what i mean.
