New to wireless-lots of questions

Basically am now in the position to buy a laptop (hurrah!), have been saving for a bit.

So, I live in rented accommodation and do not have a phone line. So I was thinking would it be possible to get something wireless, without having a phone line? Would there be a particular wireless card I would need? Anyone any idea how much it would roughly cost? How would I know if the area I live in would have wireless?

    Any help welcome please.

    Thanks
    Z

Depending on what's available to you in your area, you might not have to get DSL (using the phone line). Check out service providers like Digiweb and Irish Broadband for fixed wireless services or UPC/NTL for a cable connection, if it's available.

Another option would be the vodafore or o2 mobile broadband. This is not suitable for heavy downloading or that type of thing but can be surprisinglyeffective depending on were you main location would be. Costs 30 euros a month after the special offers wear off:) Also botho2 and vodafone offer short trial periods.

Incidentally virtually any laptop you buy now should have an integral wireless card. Dont forget to ask for advice in the laptop forum if you need any before making your choice.
