i'm just about to buy a imac, i'm stuck between screens, is the 24inch overkill & will it hurt my eyes after a few hours? is there anyother pros and cons of one screen over the other, it will be mainly used for graphics, video and music work and maybe the odd dvd....

I'm looking at the 24 inch refurb model on the apple store for 1199 and the 20 inch model on pc word for 740 ........

    Can't decide which.....any help appricated.....

well if you're doing "graphics video and music" then bigger is better!!!

You can't substitute for screen real estate in these applications...sure, you could easily get by on the 20" but if the option is there for a 24" at a decent price....!!!

I have the 24in iMac and yes the screen looks huge for a few days but you do get used to it. The screen is gorgeous but because of the glossy screen can suffer from reflections so you need to consider where you are going to put it.

The main minus about the 20in is that the tft screen is of much inferior quality and can suffer from looking washed out. If you can afford it go for the 24in

Option 2: spend the extra money on a 2nd monitor ;)

I think I read somewhere that the 20in screen is of inferior quality. That there was a class action in the US against Apple as they had advertised it as capable of displaying millions of colours where it could only display thousands. Apparently there are two types of LCD screens, the cheaper type is called TN or something and thats whats in the 20in. The 24in is the better type, maybe called IPS and renders things more accurately. It is therefore recommended for serious photo editing and graphics. Viewing angle is better too I believe
