Hurling Qualifier Draw - Fr Ted's Raffle????

    Guys,

Anyone see the Hurling Draw for the Qualifiers?

It looked like something from Fr Ted - the draw for the home venues was a total joke - 2 'balls' in each bowl, and old lemon-face Nickey just puts his hand in and picks a specific 'ball' out of the bowl. No churning them around or rolling the drum - it looked as fixed as a Zimbabwean election ..... and look at the result - the 4 favourites get home draws ...... what a result! An extra few thousand through the gates!

Does anyone else think that the draw looked decidedly hookey, given the lack of any 'ball-rolling' and the repeated break-away from the different draws back to the studio while the next phase of the draw was set-up???

I'm a Limerick-man, so the home draw is very welcome as I'd struggle to motivate myself to go to Tullamore or wherever to watch the worst Leinster has to offer; but the whole thing looked like Fr Ted's raffle!!!

It was definitely badly done. They'll have to do a Lotto on it, and bring in an independent observer to overlook it.

thought the exact same myself as I was watching.

Another thing, its absolutely shocking that Antrim and Laois did not get automatic home advantage against Waterford and Galway (I'm a Waterford fan btw)

The GAA should be trying to encourage hurling in these areas. Consider Antrim, they do their best under very difficult circumstances and instead of the GAC helping them out with a home fixture (which they would still lose, but at least fans up there wouldnt have to travel, kids etc get to see the game) they send them down to Waterford for what will more than likely be a thumping. Poor form IMO

Most definitely they should have been automatically at home, especially Antrim.

Me and Kaimera couldn't contain ourselves looking at it.:D It was so typical GAA that if they rolled them around, they'd get a few more laughs but I'd be inclined to agree that it does look very suspicious the draw and the venues.

Cheap dig - Offaly IMO are far from the worst Leinster has to offer, far from the best either but thats besides the point.

I personnaly think that Offaly would beat Wexford or Dublin or at the very least, either match would be a tight affair..

Fair enough, we got a mauling from Kilkenny but to describe us as the worst Leinster has to offer is just plain wrong and perhaps a little bitter from a Limerick man with painful memories from 1994 ;)

Im hoping for a good performance against Limerick and wouldnt rule out an Offaly Victory :D

Basically the GAA should have an official ranking system in both codes, and in situations like this, the lowest ranking side should automatically be given home field advantage. And not just qualifers, the Leinster Hurling final should be on in wexford.

    It is ridiculous alright.
Waterford have just beaten Antrim by 21 points.

Just back from the game. The pitch wasnt in great condition after all the rain during the week. If Dave Bennett had the same accuracy with his free taking as he had against Clare then the margin would have been closer to 30 points. In fairness Waterford can only go ahead and win the game they are playing, but this whole system is a shocking treatment of Antrim by the GAA

Final score Waterford 6-18 Antrim 0-15

Its ridiculous, but its not the system thats the problem, its the youth development set-up within the various counties. Kilkenny and Cork, maybe Tipp, have it sorted, but the rest are far behind. What are the schools doing to promote hurling? The majority are doing little or nothing from what i can see. So many lads in my local club gave up hurling before the age of 20, they lost enthusiasm for the game, mainly due to the poor training methods being used - its the same in several other clubs within Limerick, and in other counties too no doubt.
