    Hi guys,

has anyone had a book printed through Blurb? I've spent some time flutering around with book making packages and theirs is the best from what I can see...

I'm interested in photo repro quality and delivery time. I'm on a deadline of sometime in September for a very special birthday present.

Dunno about blurb, but you could have the thing printed how you like with photos on card or whatever and then get it bound in the thesis center on camden street, its only like 15 euro or something, and its a very profesional job. Just a thought.

A project I was involved with for a fashion students Masters end of year show in the Royal Academy of Art had a book done with Blurb, was top notch quality wise. I think it took 2 weeks. The software that they use is good too.

Actually, out of interest, where was better for quality? For this kinda thing, I'm not too worried about delivery time.

asukabook print quality is much better but they are quite a bit more expensive than blurb

i'm going to try lulu.com next

I've used Lulu in the past, and have been far from amazed with the quality.

If you don't think the quality of Blurb is good, then I'd try elsewhere!

I wouldn't bother with Lulu if you're looking for better quality. I've tried all 3 mentioned above and in terms of quality I'd rate them in this order

    1) Asuka
    2) blurb
    3) Lulu

Auska is clearly better quality than the others. My blurb/Lulu comparison was done a couple of years ago so things may have changed, but the blurb book was definatly a better quality.

As DotOrg points out, the Asuka book is more expensive, but I think they're still very good value when you consider the exchange US/EUR).

Okay. Thanks a million folks. I'll have a look at Asuka this evening and make a call on it then.

    regards

with asuka, you'll have to have some professional online presence or they won't let you sign up

also, they don't provide software to design your book. instead you lay it all out in photoshop yourself and then their software saves it as a massive pdf file

I've used blurb for about six projects and find them reliable, and I like their print quality. The only criticism I have is that their software (BookSmart) is pretty leaden on a Mac - it's beta quality software. Can't comment on using it on Windows - never been there. Delivery times are good if you're working to a tight deadline.

It's leaden on Vista as well, that I have been finding out. But that aside, I like how it works.
