Running in Rosslare / Wexford

    Hello!

I'm off to the sunny South East for my holidays and going to do some running while I'm there. I'd like to run on grass rather than road though. So does anyone know where I could go in the Rosslare / Wexford area that would have fields that I could run in? Or even space beside the road to run on the grass? Thanks!

Hi Lisapeep, I'm in Wexford for the summer so may be of some help... I do most of my running in the gym or on the road so I'm not too up on the good grass areas, but from my limited knowledge:
    • There's a loop inside Wexford racecourse which lots of people use
    • Somewhere like the grounds of Johnstown Castle would be gorgeous for running
    • The beach in Rosslare is lovely too, particularly good for running when the tide is out...

I'm sure there's plenty more areas around Rosslare itself, but don't know any I'm afraid...

There is a grass track in the school in a small village nearby called kilrane which a local athletics club uses (im not sure of the clubs name). There's also several beaches around which are ideal for running on.

Thanks for your replies! Johnstown Castle sounds like a good option. It seems that there are about 50 acres of grounds there to explore. Do you know if you have to pay in to the grounds?

Also, for running in the racecourse, is the main entrance open all the time or how do you get in? Perhaps you could describe the loop in the racecourse to me?

    Thanks again!

No fee to park in Johnstown Castle to the best of my knowledge. If you are feeling adventurous and in Wexford in the next few weeks there is a run up and down Mount Leinster on Sunday week.

I think there is a charge to get a car into Johnstown during the summer... As for the racecourse, the main entrance is open and you should be able to find a way through onto the grass. The track that I've heard used is the one used by the ambulance during the race just inside the rail of the main course, can't miss it...
