Change Harddrive

Bit off topic, ie. its not a console......but.... Q. Have any of ye guys/gals changed/upgraded a harddrive in a DVD HDD Recorder. Is it a just a matter of getting a new IDE drive and plugging it in ? or will I see firmware problems, like not recognising a new drive. I have a Samsung HR753.
