Problems porting from Meteor to 3

Wasn't too sure whether to post this in here, or in net and comms, but sure I'll try here ;)

Last Tuesday, I bought a N73 with 3, to port my number from Meteor. It did that overnight, but there was no credit on the account, even though I was told there was €10 by default, and another €10 for keeping my old number. I rang tech support, and they declared the sim was fautly...so I went back into the carphone warehouse, and they gave me a new phone and sim. Peachy so far...

After 24 hours (Thursday), I was still on a 3 number. I had gotten the initial €10 credit this time though. So I rang tech support, and they said they would request another port from Meteor, because it was denied the last time. So I let them off, and they said it would be done within 2 hours, as it was high priority or something. 2 hours gone, still wasn't done. I rang again, and they said they'd send another request, as the last one was also denied (cue first argument over the phone, claiming the operators "technical incompetence"). I eventually said OK, go for it. I then rang Meteor, who said that they sent the number on Tuesday, and hadn't seen it since, which is what I figured.

I waited out the next day (Friday now), and rang again. I finally got someone who had half a brain, and looked at the 3 system, and saw my number, on the old faulty sim. He said what they had to do was port it onto a Meteor sim, and then back to 3, as you can't go from one sim to another on the same network. Which I think is complete sh1te, but anyway...He said it would be done within 24 hours, and if not 48.

It's Saturday now (Sunday maybe? IDK), and it still hasn't happened...I will give him the benefit of the doubt and wait 'till 4 for it to happen, but I'm certain it won't. What I'd like to know is, what can I do? I simply refuse to wait another day for it, and if they try to make me wait another day, I will probably keep re-dialing until it's sorted over the phone. My biggest fear though, is that they've lost my number. What sort of compensation do I get if they've gone and done that? And what's my best course of action when I ring tomorrow?

Any help would be brilliant, I'm so confused as to what to do

It isn't possible to move a number on the same network onto another same network sim. Grab a meteor sim, port ur number back on to meteor, their quick enough(normally under 2 hours) and then once your back up on meteor ring three from your 3 phone number and get them to port your number onto your n73 that you have NOW and not the one that was exchanged. I know this is long and annoying and its not your fault but this is the quickest otherwise you could look for a replacement SIM from 3 with that 085 number on it but ou'll probably be waiting a week for it!

That's what 3 have said they're doing ATM, and they've had 45 hours at it now. He said it may take 48, so I'm going to leave him until 4. But I think the number has been lost, as it isn't actually on any sim at the moment. I still have the faulty sim, and it's been deactivated, as has my original meteor one...

I've almost been waiting a week for it at this stage anyway...

you can move onto a different sim on the same network. It's called a replacement sim. 3 ports are often a nightmare and it's always the other network's fault

oh no I know that but you can't take a 3 sim card with lets say 083-3333333 with your number thats already on the three network eg 0851145746 and get the 083 number put onto the other sim, you need a replacement sim, not a lot of places do it and if you ring three to have it sent out it will take approx a week! if you ring your number (that was on meteor) what does it say?

What they have told you is absolute nonsense. Your number has now left Meteor so porting it back there is crazy and needs to be requested by yourself through Meteor, 3 don't have the ability to do that.

If your number is already on 3 all you have to do is ask for a SIM swap. Call out the SIM number on your 083 SIM card and they should be able to swap it with the 085 SIM card meaning your 085 number is now on the SIM in your phone.

Call into the carphone warehouse again and ask for a replacement sim to be safe. They have them aswell. Then ring three as the other lads have said and do a sim swap.

I've done the sim swap yesterday (amazed carphone warehouse was open!), and it's grand today, I have my meteor number again! So relieved it's unbelievable, I was full sure the number was lost

Thanks for the advice on the sim swap, everything that 3 were doing was useless

I've just finished a year contract with three. If i can offer any advice it's to screw it and go back to meteor. I had internet with them and i can't begin to tell you how bad a company they are. There customer service is unable to speak English at the best of times and even if they do they just transfer you from department to department. When i joined I had to give a €50 deposit because they didn't know where co. Dublin was and i didn't have a post code!! They cut my broadband off because i was viewing ilegal sites, it turned out to be sciencedirect (an online scientific journal archive). They gave me a free month because of how crap there service was and after the free month they charged me €5 to re-set up the direct debit, They tried to charge me for going over the 10gb limit by 34gb one month and as i explained to them even if i had my modem on all the time i couldn't go over the limit as the speed was so shoking (my other bills averging at about 3gb download over the month).

It may be cheaper but there is a reason. What ever you do, get as far away from that company as you can. I'm not the only ones having these problems, If you don't belive me, find someone with the skype phone...
