Well after the effort of finding live streams for both RTÉ 1 & 2 available worldwide ;) , I've now discovered that TV3 have the Leinster semi-final between Dublin and Westmeath!

Does anyone know where there will be a stream available for this game?

Thanking you from across the pond. . .

**Mods: Also posted in the match thread, if this is an issue please let me know.

Cheers mate, I just found that. But it's only within the island of Ireland, so I'm screwed here in Canada!:(

Apparently it can be done using an Irish proxy server (RTE/TV3 then think you are in Ireland and so it works) but i've never gotten one to work!

I listened to the match on Radio 1 yesterday.

Ok after weeks searching, trying to find something, and failing miserably at the whole proxy thing, I was talking to a guy who is going to broadcast the matches tomorrow.
Mayo v Galway and Clare v Tipp on Justin Tv. If you want the link PM me as I don't know if I am allowed to post it here.
I will reply to all PM's before the matches start tomorrow.

    this may work:

Not sure about this proxy but worth a shot: http://www.proxyireland.com/

Just type in the location of the web stream in the box here and it should load once the proxy is running i think.

Thanks for that but didnt work, watched both games on Justin TV. Good enough sound, video a lit scratchy for the first game. About 60 viewers from all over the world. Thanks to the guy who broadcast it.

I don't know how hard you looked but I found it very easily on Justin TV. I just clicked on "sports" and it was on the first page.

For those in the US you can subscribe to Setanta Broadband. Not sure about Canada:

    Hi folks,

Could anyone recommend a proxy or some other way of getting around the "Island of Ireland only" thing on rte's broadcast of GAA on their website?

Really want to watch Galway v Cork on Saturday evening but live in England.

If there's any suggestions at all that would be great.

Tried a couple of proxies including one mentioned here but to no avail.

    Thanks,

    K.

PS Can you get RTE on Sky in Britain cause if you can I'll ask some granny if I can borrow her couch for a couple of hours.

No, afraid not. You need to have an Irish Sky box to get RTÉ. I doubt it's going to help you but most Irish pubs abroad have an Irish Sky box. If you can't find anything, have a look through the listings on Justin TV. Afaik, it's ok to post links to live streams here. Best of luck anyway!:)

It is an Irish Sky subscription you need. No such thing as an Irish box.

Sorry, I meant an Irish Sky card, that you put into the box. So yeah, it's an Irish Sky subscription. The only difference is that you get RTÉ, TV3 and TG4 as channels 101/2/3/4, rather than BBC and ITV. It's much easier than the whole cable TV subscription to Setanta aswell, even though most pubs have it anyway for the soccer etc.

My fault; does anyone know if the games will be streamed so they can be watched without geographical restrictions? As per the title of this thread.;)

RTÉ & TV3 only work if your within the island of Ireland, which is no use to me or anyone else abroad.

I just checked most proxies i know of and they gave database errors. There is a way that someone in Ireland can set their computer as a proxy and allow you access through their address but im not sure how to do it unfortunately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 517 ✭✭✭lisbon_lions

If you could be ersed, there is a thing called TOR (The Onion Router) that lets you piggy back on a IP from a country of your choosing to get around geographical restrictions...just google TOR

Just pay Setanta their blood money and be done with it.

Relying on proxies will only let you down unless you do it through your own machine and when the big games are on there will be so little bandwidth you won't be able to see a thing. And it's against the law!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kraggy

That's all well and good but don't have access to Setanta where I am.

And besides, the match is on RTE.

If anyone's interested, have just discovered that Galway v Cork is going to be on Justin.tv.

Just read about a better workaround here

    http://cupidstunt.wordpress.com/2008/07/13/how-to-get-around-the-rte-geoblock-without-using-an-irish-proxy/

It involves getting a link from the clip details in real player, which has the block removed......

...if anyone is willing to get this link and pm me id be very grateful!:)
