Well, I never put any thought into this particular facet when I decided to go inter-railing for a month but I'm leaving work to do it and I'm wondering should I sign on or do anything at all? Someone started going on about tax credits or something and how you couldn't have a break in them... they didn't seem to know what they were on about but now I'm paranoid!
Could someone please clear this up for me?

They definitely didn't know what they were talking about. If you're quitting your job then all you'll need to do is give the P45 you receive to your next employer.

On an off-topic note, the only form I'd suggest that you fill in is the one for an EHIC card so that you've got public health cover across Europe for your trip.
