The trailer is crap but the synopsis has potential. Fingers crossed! (One review on AICN didnt rate it too good at all. :()

Their scene together in Heat was awesome, this film is great on paper, hopefully it turns out well... noticed 50 cent is playing a character however :/

its hard to know, it seems like so many critics want this to bomb that there are already negative vibes for it. the story sounds good, I just hope it is executed well. The director has done some pretty good stuff, without being exceptional, I just hope that the main characters are written well and not just adapted to be a vehicle for de niro to look constantly pissed off and pacino to have bouts of shouting followed by the trademark forced laugh.

Cant see them topping HEAT though.

Question: Has De Niro made a decent movie since Heat? (I wouldn't count Meet the Parents by the way...)

depends on your opinion of decent. heat is more then a decent film, its a classic, and would arguably rank up there with goodfellas, taxi driver and mean streets.

As far as decent films go, I would class the following as decent 3 star movies that I would quite happily sit down on a saturday night to watch. Not everything can be a classic like Heat,Frankie machine looks like it culd be top notch again for deNiro. ...lets not be over critical here. Compared to other movies that come out without deniros rep, these stand up as decent avaerage entertainment.
    1. The Good Shepherd
    2. Meet the Fockers
    3. Analyze That
    4. City by the Sea
    5. Showtime
    6. The Score
    7. 15 Minutes
    8. Meet the Parents
    9. Flawless
    10. Analyze This
    11. Ronin
    12. Great Expectations
    13. Jackie Brown
    14. Cop Land
    15. Marvin's Room
    16. Sleepers
    17. The Fan

You think there are negative vibes because critics want the film to bomb? Could it not be because it's just not a good film?

Honestly, judging by the trailer, this does not look like a good film. It looks pretty lame, and I would actually put money on a twist ending where either DeNiro or Pacino turns out to be the baddie.

I suppose they're only a few days away from retirement...

I knew it was going to be awful when 50 cent was cast in it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 589 ✭✭✭vincenzo1975

without real reviews negative press is unwarranted. I agree the trailer looks poor, but we will have to wait and see, the poster with de niro and pacino in the reservoir dog style suits looks great though.

But again I say, the expectation is that this should be a classic and anything other then that will see critics slam it, which is unfair.

Some folk just love to see the likes of de niro and pacino fall on their face.

That's just preposterous. They were both world class actors, but if they continue to put in terrible performances, then people are going to call them out on it. It's as simple as that.

For me, DeNiro was the man, I don't even need to go into how many of his films I've absolutely loved over the years, but there's no denying he's been just been plodding through various roles without so much as an effort, and this is nothing new either, he was pretty awful in The Untouchables and he's been hit and miss ever since. For every Casino or Ronin, there's been some awful comedy, lame horror, or animated film where DeNiro just acts on autopilot. I would like nothing more than to see him give a decent performance in another great film.

De Niro has a restaurant and production company. I always got the impression his later year movie roles were to raise money for his other ventures. It all started with Backdraft if you ask me!

    [*]Sleepers[/LIST]

I Would count Sleepers on the same line as HEAT/Taxi Driver IMO

If there's one thing that demands my admiration, it's the fact that he's involved with a Japanese resteraunt. Now that's one celebrity owned place I'd like to eat at. :D

Didnt realise it was Japanese! Cool.

The mileage we could get by suggestion meal item names in his restaurant, but I will resist!! :D (Id love some "Bustin My (Pork) Chops" tho...)

My parents went to eat in his restaurant a few years ago and met him when they were leaving. Now that was a trip I wish I was on!!

have to say the trailer looks pretty poor alright and 50 cent being in it doesn't help matters. It just looks like an excuse to have de niro and pacino on screen together for a full film but of course i'll reserve proper judgement till it comes out

Donnie Wahlberg outacted both DeNiro and Pacino in this movie.

No as good as Heat but an ok film.

    1. Ronin

The others were average but I thought this was really good, atleast four stars, but then again if I wasn't a car nut would I love it as much?

Didn't De Niro walk of the set of a film a week or two ago ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

im not a fan of either of these guys TBH and dont get why people go so mad over HEAT . i thought it was just average.

i caught the add for this a while back and thought it looked intrigueing at the very least and if it comes out in the next few day i'll probably go see it if only because theres sod all out i actually want to go see.

been a real drought at the cinema since the dark knight as far as im conscerned. i sense a case of "titanic" syndrome where no one wanted to release anything to go up againts it.

    DK wasnt that good.

Righteous Kill will probably be an ok movie but will be acclaimed and overrated in a similar manner to DK (this year) and much of Pacino and Deniros later work. In fact i would go so far as to say DeNiro hasnt made a good mivie since Ronin and Heat was the last before that. The same time frame can be applied to Pacino, his last good film was Any given Sunday or Devils Advoctae depending on your tastes.

Yes he has a dispute with Mel Gibson

I am ashamed but I laughed very hard, when he was dancing in Stardust

It was Taxi driver and The Deer hunter which brought De Niro superstar staus ,specialy his performance in the latter .Remember seeing Deer hunter on release thinking a major star had arrived .I loved his mugging performances in Analyse this and the sequel

Serpico I think did the same thing for Pacino and his performance in Glengarry Glenross is also memorable .

    titanic wasnt that good either

didnt stop the only film being released against it for months being austin powers. i thought that drought would never end.

i honestly dont get the fervor over DK. im a comic book fan and i liked the film, seeing it as basically a superhero version of one of the "bourne" films TBH in terms of enjoyment and quality, but i dont get the fanatacism that seems to surround it

I never got why HEAT was so highly rated by people, I thought it was fairly average. I hope this turns out better.

well the company i do some work for got a dvd screener of it already. so that dont say a lot.
the usa hype is over with this film.
the day deniro did rocky and bullwinkle and voice overs . thats when he let me down as the best methd actor ever.

Considering the talent and legacy of the two lead stars: this is the worst fuucking film film of all time. It makes 88 Minutes look like Goodfellas.

    1/10

(and thats for the scene where Carla Gugino gets bent over and shagged)

    A horrible, horrible mess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,579 ✭✭✭BopNiblets

Geez, it wasn't that bad, maybe a 5/10 from me.

That scene was like 4 seconds, and what you don't like doggy style? :p

Watching it now, 45mins in and looking forward to it ending, its like they tried to make a film about "dexter" and failed :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,241 ✭✭✭Vic Vinegar

I found this incredibly disappointing, not one interesting scene in the whole sorry mess. De Niro & Pacino are on a rapid downward spiral for film quality lately.

gotta agree, I watched it last night its absolutely brutal. I actually left the cinema about 30-40 mins in and I would normally sit through most sh1t, I could not take anymore when DeNiro was playing baseball and Pacino was sitting astride a motorbike like a teenager with a bird sitting on the back and with the usual Pacino acting thesedays (shouting his head off) my God it was awful.

I have lost all hope of seeing Pacino in a good role again (especially with the hair transplant) but I still hold out hope for DeNiro

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 905 ✭✭✭Ay Cee

What a pile of sh1te! Pacino & DeNiro phoned in those performances and oh how predictable a film can you get.

Props to Donny New Kid and John Leguizamo though. They should have had Pacino and De Niro playing their parts and vice versa. Might have made it slightly interesting.

If this film didn't have De Niro and Pacino NOBODY would make any mention of it.

ahahh yea when the fight broke out and he was screaming go turk go and then there was this slow motion and a really weird eyeball look from both at each other as if they were in love, I mean seriously, WHAT was that scene all about :)

    HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE film

    1/10

Oh, and yea I didnt see that twist coming 10 miles off:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I went to see this last Friday, wish I had of read a review before I went. Absolute rubbish and if I was at the end of the row me and the missus would have left after 45 minutes. Dreadful film.
