The shop I work in closes at midnight now, so that's the latest I'd have to work to on any occasion.

Latest shift in my place is eleven.

Sitting in front of a computer at 10.30 on a Saturday is NOT fun.

That's awful, I finished at 10.30 tonight (was meant to be 10 >.<) and back in at 10am, but due to buses etc, I'll be there an hour early.

You get used to it though. I've been working in bars for about 8 years now. Always late bars/clubs so I never finish before 2.30 and at weekends it could be 3.30 to 4. I'd have to be back in for 10 or 11 two mornings a week too. Needless to say its often much later when we finish eh work ;) so I sometimes just work straight through. If I'm very drunk/tired and in at 11, I occasionally sleep on the couch in our cloakroom. :D

Gigs, weddings and parties usually mean late work.

Also end up working on photos til the early hours, but I could do it during the day if I wanted. I don't mind working late as long as I can sleep in til 9/10 in the morning.

I work in Limerick. walk to work, haven't seen rush hour traffic since I left Dublin in 1998.

I take it you don't have to go through that shambles of traffic lights they recently put up on the Tipp Rd and Childers Rd, all the same there still better than driving n Dublin

I do, on my way back home. What a load of cock, and/or balls. How to break an already broken road junction, brought to you by Limerick County Council.

I work nights, sometimes in a casino but usually playing poker online, games are much better at night, really couldnt handle getting up early for a 9-5.

Latest is 11 in my Dunnes Stores, either on Wednesdays when there's no nightpack,or last night when there was a stocktake...
Speaking of nightpack, anyone here do that? Must be horrible- 23- 7 6 nights a week, working in a shop, with 10 other people and a manager(that's how we do it) stacking shelves and that task universally known by anyone working in a grocery store- facing-off .. that's bad enough during the day :P

I work two nights a week. The joys of working in a busy night club bar :)

    This week I'm working 23:00 to 07:00

Better than when I was on "Continental" shift working 20:00 to 08:00, often on Thursday to Saturday nights ;)

Fifteen years working at least three shifts (except for a couple of years on continental). Every so often the insomnia'messed up bodyclock means no sleep for three or four days. Then exhaustion forces a reset :)

1 AM, sometimes 2 AM. finish

And then I can't sleep when I get in, so I think I might start using Boards instead to carry me off.

    Lol plug plug plug:)

    Why shouldn't I plug? :)

We're a new forum and an important resource to those with sleeping issues.*

It is my cause- nay my duty- to plug this forum like it's never been plugged. Sink plugs will be jealous of the world class plugging I shall perform!

    *may not actually be true

Plug away i just wanted to type plug plug plug because I like writing plug ,but you go fulfil your dreams of being a better plug than a sink plug.

But do not underestimate the sink plugs powers. They can sit there quietly among the grease and floaty bits until it decides to leak causing the world to panic. They are not our enemies ,they are our friends, brothers in arms, plugging what you do not have the capability to plug.

    Now plug plug plug*

*I love saying that word :D

I work form 21:45-06:15 at least five days a week. Being a baker fracking sucks. (Pays nice, though.)

I work a regular 9-5 during the day (though its mostly 8-6 or 7) and I DJ at weekends and sometimes during the week.. proper nocturnal work!!
Gotta love the bar staff who have to clean up for ages after I swan off 10 mins after the music finishes!

I work shifts which is a month of days and then a month of nights 7:00am-7:00pm. After 8+ years you kinda get used to it. I don't mind working nights.

Used to do tech support, total insanity, 2.5 years of 24/7/365. I was a zombie at the end of it, sometimes it was fun, or maybe exciting , like when you were fixing something big and your customer tells you that the problem is on the 6 o clock news, like no one in LA can making a f***&6% phone call or something so could you like fix it a bit quicker.

After I quit and started 9-5 again, it took about 9 months before I could enjoy a saturday afternoon. I could n't handle that work stopped like on Friday evening and you went home and came back on monday. Then I figured out that was normal! I cant stand the sound of a pager!

    I dont miss it!
    cheers

When I was in DELL I used to do 12 hour shifts Mon-thurs on the swing shift. That could mean I'd start at 5,6 or 7 oclock in the morn, and finish 12 hrs later in the evening. Then it'd swap round the next week. It seriously screwed up my body clock.
My next job I'd sometimes be finished at half 2 in the morn, then have to cycle home, which woke me up, and I wouldnt be able to get to sleep till bout 4. But I prefer to work nights though. Don't know why.

Work in hotels really takes the biscuit imo, generally start around 6pm on a friday and finish about 3am sat morning, then back in again for 3 or 4 depending on what time we finished the previous night, often in till 2 or 3 am, sometimes later :( Then back to Dub for college during the week :) there is always light at the end of the tunnel!

The worst thing I found when working late was getting up a 11 to start work at midnight, nothing worse than getting up when everyone else is going to bed :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 804 ✭✭✭TimTim

When I work nights its from 9:30pm to 8:30am. Its even worse getting stuck in traffic on the way home after a long boring night...

During nights it will only take me about 15 minutes to get in work. It took me an hour to get home one morning recently....
