I just got my UPC internet installed there, and for a while I was downloading fine at I think about 900kb/s from rapidshare...

Until now, now in speed test 289234710.png

and from where im from, Limerick

    What gives?

I understand that cabled internet is shared or something yea? So is this to be constantly expected now, from my so called 12mb connection?

Would having the bloody tv on have an effect on this :/ .... I mean I just dont know.. that speed is terrible.

Any one else having speed problems like this in limerick?

Looks to be very severe contention alright, maybe do a few more speed tests throughout the evening and see does it improve as it gets away from peak time. It certainly looks like grounds to ring them up and give them a bollocking if it continues.

    uuuuppppceeee :)

My bad, its the stupid wireless plain aul g router they gave to me.. it isnt going 20 meters to my laptop upstairs before it hits "Very low" signal..

but got it to strech a bit now, and im dloading at 1mb from rapidshare now..

    Im soo happy :D

Just one little thing that someone might know..

When I go down right beside my router with the laptop and ping boards -t it stays stable from 11 to 16, but upstairs I get slightly higher ping (to be expected) but every now and again I get 120 spikes..

Any wireless settings that I should be aware off that might stop this?

    Many thanks,
    Coz.

I just got my UPC 12 MB installed yesterday and had the same problem, speed was horrible via WiFi as the modem/router were downstairs next to the telly.

So I purchased an Devolo HomePlug Adapter, one of those which makes LAN via Powerline and moved the router upstairs to the office, now I use the Lan port on the router and my speeds are brilliant.

I even noticed that my VoIP quality (Blueface) is now way better and my download rates are so far so good.

Now does anybody know if UPC has a webpage where I can see how much of my bandwith I already have used?

With all these new much higher speed products coming from UPC, we are going to hear a lot more stories like this. The relatively low speed and instability of wireless is going to be increasingly a bottleneck for high speed BB products.

Not to mention the ubiquity of wireless routers. If you have speed problems with upc or any isp the first thing to check is the speed via ethernet.

Then use a program like netstumbler (google for it) to see if there are any wireless networks using the same channel or a nearby one - if so change your own and of course make sure you have security on your network.
