Firstly - contact Bartly and discuss the situation with him. He will explain what you can and can't do.

I imagine Myth will also have some good advice.

What course do you do? I imagine it will be a pretty crappy summer, but I am very sure you will be able to cover all of the work in that time.

First thing to do is relax, then go talk to the powers that be.

Bartely is the education officer (www.tcdsu.org) and he is the power the be - or rather, he will find the correct person and help you contact them

Myth is a user here on boards who was an education officer and knows everything about Trinity.

    What course are you doing?

Ah ok, I was very confused when I read that PM tweety, this thread explains it a bit more.

OK, first thing first - you're going to have to put some amount of work into passing in the repeats. It's not going to be easy but you do have the summer to do the work. Now, what you should do at first is to go meet the lecturers who set the exams you failed. Yes, it will be intimidating, but you need to find out where you went wrong otherwise it will be a LOT more difficult to study for the repeats (and while it's hard to do, you need to find out where you went wrong).

I've known people who have repeated 8 subjects in one year and passed them all. Others have done six. Myself I've repeated 3 in years gone by. So yes it's possible to pass them.

So what I'd suggest doing - take a day or a week off right now. Relax. Get your head straight. It's a major shock to the system when you fail first, especially if you came out of school doing well. After that week, you should start contacting people you know in the class who passed, and get their notes (assuming your notes aren't up to scratch). As above, contact the lecturers. Get the exam papers - go over them. When you're done, go over the previous years. And again. Do it religiously. You're going to have to get a study plan going. If you know other people who have failed those subjects, then meeting up to do some group study on them might work for you - but it might not.

One of the services in college (I can't actually remember) runs a 'study skills' session, and e-mails are usually sent out in August for people who need help studying and looking for pointers. These are actually excellent, and are aimed at helping you remember topics (and understand them). Consider going to this.

Cost - the repeats are still free as far as I know. You don't have to register for them or anything, if you fail (and made a 'good attempt') you'll be automatically on the list for doing them.

The library in college has reduced opening hours (although I think Thursdays are still open 'til 9 or 10pm) and the SU usually organises for study space to be opened on campus for the time leading up to the exam session.

If you want to study in college there's lots of 24 hour places to do it in. Hamilton building - top floor (hamilton now, not panoz). There are stairs up there and there's also a lift. Chances are there's a table at the top floor - the L shaped one. Get there early, and grab the chair. It can get hot up there but that's where I studied all during my college years (plus elsewhere on campus). It's great for studying during repeats though since it's available after the library closes.

Now... it's worth stopping where you are and just thinking about this. You can do two things - you can try and pass them (which if you do, you'll realise how crappy repeats are and you'll work your ass off not to do them again, and thus will do well in the future) or you can stop where you are and just write it off. You have just under 3 months until the repeats are on which is an extraordinary amount of time to study. So time is on your side.

So, right now you're staring at the computer, and you've to start figuring out how you're going to get through this. Think of this as a challenge. Why do you think you won't be able to pass all those modules in September? I'd wager a guess that most of your class did it first time around, so why can't you do it the second time? Seriously, you made it into college so you obviously have some level of intelligence, it will simply take some planning and some work.

If maths is the problem you should drop into the maths department since I'm fairly sure they still run a maths support room whereby you can go along and ask ANY maths questions. Give the department a call and they'll know more.

It is possible to pass. 3 months is ages. You've been through the Leaving Cert or the A-Levels. With a bit of work, you'll definitely pass.

Contact Bartley (education@tcdsu.org - SU Education Officer, paid to know and answer queries about this) and/or your tutor and they'll be able to give you better, up to date information. But basically yes, you can pass.
