The classic bluesy overdrive is the Tube Screamer. There's a company
    http://www.buildyourownclone.com/
who recreate that pedal and a few other classics.
You can buy them in kit form or ready built.
I got a Tube Screamer and MXR distortion + clones and they're fantastic.

thnx for that, will give it a go,
the fender amp has a Drive channell as well , a very good amp actually i bought from Thomann but a bit of extra distortion would be good for some stuff

    thnx

Head, I'm the worst guitar player in history.... but I like a good noise!
Just bought a Rickenbacker 330 on Ebay 2 weeks ago too.

I have a late 80s Jap Tele that I put the custom shop pickups in and did up the copper foil shielding etc, savage twang off it! It can be James Burton OR Joe Strummer.

I , meanwhile, can be neither!
