TV for Bathroom

We got a new bathroom in the house and the plumber put the bath in the wrong way around. When you're in the bath you're facing into an alcove so it'd make up for it by putting a telly on the wall in the alcove. Does anyone know where I should look for a waterproof TV in Dublin? I'm willing to spend €600 give or take.

    Cheers.

Sorry but your not going to get much of a waterproof tv for €600. Don't think there is much available under the €1500+ mark.

The two main versions available are TileVision and Aquavision. TV Start at about €1500 and then you'll have the installation. Usually installed professionally at a cost of €600+.

    HTH?

What about the cheap ones on Ebay from Hong Kong? Mirror TV's.

    http://www.wetvisiontv.com/

Everyone that bought one is very happy with it so the question really is how long would they be expected to last?

Haven't a clue but there must be a reason they're as expensive as jmal says.

BTW, this guy seems to be re-selling the TV's on that wetvision site for a lot more:

My Brother put TV in room next to bathroom which happens to be under stairs. then cut out square in wall for tv (20"crt) to fit through and put glaas sheet in front then Siliconed to tiles. looks well. mind you sound is a prob -has to turn tv up high to hear it through glass

    total cost
    1 sheet glass
    clear silicone
    unused 20" tv

There are a few reasons that the tilevision and aquavision screens are so expensive.
    1. They have a "de-mister" built in which uses a heating element to prevent the screen from misting up or damaging the screen from moisture build up.
    2. They have dedicated speaker outputs which run from the back of the screen to in ceiling speakers.
    3. Waterproof remote control!!

You could (depending on a number of factors, including size of the bathroom and amount of moisture in the room etc) do a DIY job as discussed but at your own peril.
Weigh up the cost difference between tilevision RRP 17" €1499 and 23" €2349 and the fact that they have an optional mirror finish (so it looks like an actual mirror when not in use).

So you can do it properly

    or

You can go the DIY route!

€2500 you would want to be watching a LOT of TV in the bath!!!

Rather spend that on a 50" Pioneer Plasma

Ill get a pic of BRO's set up. bear in mind the back of his TV is under the stairs so it out of the way. This May/May not be the case in your set up

    Hi Eirebhoy,
Have you installed it yet? Any pics?
It obviously is significantly cheaper than tilevision or aquavision so would be very interested to see how you get on with it. Do you have a brand name or model no so I can do some searching?

    Cheers,

    Industria.

It's a non-branded TV made in Hong Kong. Obviously I'm taking a big risk but if it ever stops working I'll probably just keep it on the wall for display anyway. I'll let you know how I get on. I probably won't get it for a couple of weeks.

    Hi eirebhoy

Good find with the EBay Mirror TV, Very good price.

Whats the story with warranty. I'd take it if there's one its RTB.

Be good to hear your opinion when the screen is in for a couple of weeks.

Any word yet on that TV?, I'm thinking of ordering one for myself and the only real option is to go with the ones on ebay, the tilevision ones are really too expensive.

Do you know if the one you have ordered has a heated screen so that it doesn't fog up?

Yeh I got the TV a few weeks ago. Very impressed with it. Still haven't put it up on the bathroom though as I've been a bit too lazy lately. :o

Sorry for not replying. I'd only get the mirror TV if you have a bathroom that you can make dark when you want to. With my bathroom I can't really watch the TV in the day time because of the shine. But I'd recommend it highly otherwise. I'd go for the non-Mirror one obviously though.

For €500 it's probably worth it for a decoration feature/talking factor alone. We hardly watch the bloody thing. :D

Hi Eireboy,(i realise its an on old post but i'm new....) I'm curious to know if your TV is still going strong? I really want one in my new build (eventually) but as discussed prices are ridiculous. Is the one you bought on ebay worth it for the added gadget in the room? :)
